I saw this today in my Haggerty e-newsletter.  A very brief article on the Highway Hi-Fi.  I was hoping to see Roadkill on the Web's insights (alas, the depth was much too shallow for our expert).  The snibbit was not to complimentary to Chrysler quality control - perhaps deservedly so.

I like to see the unusual option get some press but it would have been nice if they got it accurate!

"Together with its foldout design for easy and convenient storage (the entire Hi-Fi unit mounted discreetly in the dash), the Highway Hi-Fi seemed the perfect solution to combining the soon-to-be twin passions of the burgeoning, post-war youth market: cars and music."
It was pull out not fold out. It installed under the dash not in it and by the available record selection they were not going for the youth market!

When Peter Goldmark met the Chrysler executives at the airport to show him the issues they were having they came in a Plymouth. The unit was designed to work in the larger/heavier Chrysler Desoto platform.

The statement that they were available in "Plymouth Fury, Chrysler New Yorker, Dodge Royal Lancer, Imperial, and 300 series" is incorrect. They were not reserved for only the top line models they could be installed in any passenger car as long as it had the 7-button HR radio installed to work with it. The factory ceased support for them in 1957 and refereed users to authorized repair shops in the area and they are not mentioned in the 58 accessory literature but if a dealer had one on the shelf and a customer wanted it the dealer would be glad to sell it to them.

I see they, like the UAW used the good color image from my website for the article with no mention of my site also.

Hi, Lee - I was a little disappointed when I opened the piece and your name was nowhere to be seen! But, like you said - a little bit of press can still be a good thing, even though the article was cursory and inaccurate. You may want to send a quick note to Haggerty and offer to write them a real article!

I highly doubt they will make any corrections etc. I have tried before with other websites. The UAW site actually hotlinked to my website to the photos at first then just took copies. No credit for source or changes made after email sent.
