Hi and after a couple of months of owning one and bugging people for information I thought I'd better post a few pics up and have my own thread

Here it is the day it was delivered

Delivered by he seller.

At home

Big Butt

It fits, Good job I ordered a big enough garage!

Pictured here with my very understanding better half.

Photobucket

It's tatty as hell but I like it. It's not been registered here in the UK even though it's been here for 9 years. It looked like it just needed a tweak here and there to get it up and running get it MOT'd (inspection) and register it. A couple off weeks I thought.

It wasn't charging so I fitted a UK style alternator these work really well plus I had one kicking around the garage

It wasn't charging so swapped in a UK style alternator.

Next was change the headlights, they were changed to UK spec but as they were sealed beams one had popped so a halogen kit was installed. Here is an old vs new pic.

bit of a difference eh?

Next I took the seat out to clean and get rid of a rodent residence

I think I found a home. The occupant had moved out!

I then noticed that the oil level was going up and the water down so thought I'd better check that out

I had a problem with water in the oil

Mmmm!

Pressure test revealed a radiator that doubled as a sprinkler!

This had about 4 leaks in it!

crusty!

I soldered up the radiator. The water getting in the engine was due to a corroded intake gasket around the water ways and the intake bolts not tight either!!

The wipers packed up, terminal came off the back of the switch

Photobucket

Fixed it with a filed down screw

fixed with a filed down screw!

Next the cruddy heater buttons

I need to plant potatoes lol

Bit of a clean up

That's better

That's better

like new but old

I then turned to the brakes as bleeding them didn't give me much pedal so I had to investigate and while I was under the dash I noticed this

Whilst under dash I noticed something else

There's no bolt in the top of the bracket!

Pedal out

You can see here that someone has been altering the position of the push rod hole!

WTF!

Photobucket

Everything out!

Photobucket

Photobucket

This was the position of the pedal box in relation to the brace plate out of the car

this is how it was.....

This is where it should be

this is where it shoule be

Today I'm not taking any more chances. I'm finding more faults faster than I can fix them so out with all the brake cylinders

What is this axle off?

Any Guess what Axle this is?

Photobucket

Photobucket

OK this is the general condition of the brakes. Can you believe previous owner had replaced the rubbers?

crap!

Not Good

Here is one of the rear cylinders. Can anyone recognize it?

rear wheel cylinder - What is it?

and again - bore size 23 mm

Also had a leaking gearbox sump. All the bolts were loose but there was also a little sludge in the bottom.

That's about it for tonight. I'm off to bed!!

Nice going, so far, Carl!

Your efforts point out that, while the paint-and-body "work" are fun to look at, the real love's-labor resides in the
mechanical condition of a car.

I've not added much to my thread (this one) for a long while... What's been happening in the 5 odd years?...... New brakes all round.. I got it on the road and registered. Been happily driving the odd the odd occasions... Engine has been fine apart from it breathing a little heavy it hasn't missed a beat.. I started to build a new exhaust as the single pipe at the rear was causing fumes to get sucked in through around the tailgate. Just got that done then the trans went so I had that rebuilt... I re bushed the front end and fitted a new drag link and shocks. I made a new fuel tank with the help of Aaron's pictures and a few measurements and so far so good..

I'm going to start doing some work on the body and I know it will need a lot as there are a few crusty areas like wheel arches, lower qtrs, around the qtr windows and where the roof meets the drip rail....

I'm a big fan of early to mid sixties Kustoms like Larry Watson So.... I'm probably going get shouted at for this.. I'm thinking of making it a four door hardtop wagon......

What I want to know is are the door shells much different other than the top frame that holds the the glass when up or are they different to take into the consideration the bigger glass needed to fill the gap?
Does this also mean that the "B" pillar is different other than being just shorter?
Is there much difference to the body structurally that would need to be done for example where the "B" post has been removed?.....

Start with another set of 4drht doors Carl. Between my Plymouth and my dodge, nothing on the doors matched up

I was thinking at one stage of using my Plymouth door cards on the dodge, but they didn't come close to fitting

The B pillar does look similar, but I didn't take to much notice of how similar they really are

The 4drht uses a plastic cover on the inside of the b pillar that's hard to find

I think the biggest drama though would be the roof line and how it seals the glass, its completely different and the window "action" is not just up and down, especially the rears

Not impossible, but a heck of a lot of work

Thanks a lot for your quick reply Mick. So it does seem the doors are way waay different between hardtop and sedan?

The car is going to take a heck of lot of work anyway but one can dream.
