1957 Dodge Custom Sierra Spectator (9-seater), all original 45k mile car.

I kept the tires and destroyed the car with an axe because the engine didn't start from the key  I was so mad I crapped on the dashboard.

After the body was dumped I read it starts from the Neutral-button. Shame.

58 DESOTOS RULE - 2010-08-31 6:11 AM  Shame. Punch yourself in the gut for being a stupid yahoo.

Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it. Is Yahoo a search engine?

I still have the gear changer, if someone is interested. As I need to recover the investment what I lost when I demolished my car - I need $42,000 USD for the part. Its actually not a bad deal, about $5000,- less than Mitchell Motor Parts is asking. Please PM me if you are interested, I can take the payment in cash, PayPal or in "nature".

If someone is interested, this is the Dodge before I destroyed it with an axe. We used the pick-up truck from the background to dump the body in the forest, never a beer tasted better than after that:

Cheers!

I have a '57 DeSoto FireSweep wagon. It's an all white car with a green interior. Total project going on here. All my pics of it are on my old computer so I can't post any right now. It's a pretty basic car, doesn't seem to have a lot of options on it, though I'm not sure exactly what would be considered optional as opposed to standard equipment. The plan so far is to get it running and driving then worry about body/paint/interior. Getting ready to pull the engine out next weekend, then give it a diagnostic. Maybe keep original drivetrain, maybe swap out for a 413 I've got. Body will be turquoise and black two tone. Have the best day everyone.

As long as you tell us the truth - I wish you'll destroy as much Audis as you can. This would be much more fun than destroying an FL car... (;-)

Dieter, don't worry, I would never kill a FL car! Some people just have no sense of black humour so its good to find the point where they get totally annoyed

You are right about the Audi's, but I have to add that I especially hate Opel's (except the ones built with GM 327 small-blocks long time ago...). Not sure the fault is in the car industry, or in the people who buy them... Bring back the fins!

Btw. is your Mowag/Dodge ex-fire department vehicle? I see them sometimes for sale in Switzerland... I also have 2 Swiss build vehicles, but unfortunately nothing that I could post here...

This must surely be the rarest station wagon in this site! Would be intesting to know the production numbers, maybe even less than they made D501's! That emblem on the fin looks wierd! ...So, have you decided to start a restoration, sell it or just store it for later?

Hello Sisu

I was swinging back and forth (take it serios or as black humor). I really couldn't imagine to destroy a FL car even though it looks like Miss Belverdere.
About Opels, I totally agree with your opinion. The only good Opel is the V8 Diplomat (/w a 327 Chebby engine). Once I bought three Opels - the first, the last and the only one.
Yes my Mowag (Dodge) was a fire recsue light truck. Mowag bougth the rights to put their name plate to the hood. It's the car I'm owning for 7 years now.
Kind regards - Happy Motoring!
Dieter
BTW: the wagon you posted is looking very, very good - the engine's running (:-)

Regarding Jeff's 57 Suburban D500, it is the only one currently known to (barely-) exist; the number of
D500 Suburbans can only be determined by recording all 18k D500's that were built, from the Historical Society's
microfilm records of the total 287.5K 1957 Dodges that were built.

I think the guy who once ordered the D500 Suburban was the type of guy I like! That is so wierd combination the buyer must have been a hot rodder. That's a real sleeper...

So good luck Jeff, you can now spend your evenings going through those 287500 records and count how many were built. You might want to visit your optician first. If I had little bit more money/space in these days I would certainly ask your price for it... I have seen a trend which is slowly giving more credit to these station wagons - everyone likes pick-up trucks but these grocery-getters are appreciating in coolness-factor! ..and they are very practical!

Btw Dieter, you aren't too far from me, I live 6-7km from Basel. If you ever come to this direction, let me know... Beer is cheaper (and better taste) this side of the border LOL
I also just noticed you mention in your private profile the Mowag was an ex-fire vehicle, doh!

Hi luedi !

Yes that is my "Spectator", with the kids in the backseat.

Thanks for showing me the pictures.

Friday we were 1 of 3 Danish car cruising, but the 2 other got heating problems,
Saturday again we were 1 of only 2 Danish cars cruising, sad isn'it.

Old Mopars never die, they just keep on cruising.

Thanks Rebels59 Coronet for posting my '61. My other '61 Dodge Sub is the red one I spoke of a cpl of weeks ago, but I forgot where it was posted . Wizard And Adriana, I think we have us a CONVOY ie. for you younger folk thats a Jerry Reed song. Its great to be able to view all of the subs in one area. Keep them coming!!!
