Elite Veteran Posts: 915 Location: Pau, S-W France | Hi, I've a friend who has lot of problem with his '58 318 distributor (single). Seems that the plate or the axle is shot. I've seen in this forum that a "LA" distributor will work on any 318 Polypheric, true ? Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | Rather than pay $220+ to get a distributor, I would just purchase a re-manufactured one at your local autoparts store for around $40 + $11 core. I'd get one for a '72 Barracuda with a 340 motor. I don't know if they sell them as readily in France, but I think you can still order it online from Autozone or Oreilly. Then I use a GM HEI ignition module on it so that I don't have to mount that Chrysler box or the ballast resistor on my firewall. I have the bracket that will bolt the GM module listed at http://www.designed2drive.com and the module comes from any GM V8 (or V6 too I think) product from '75-'83 for around $20. Nevertheless, if you want to use the Chrysler box, it is available from the parts stores, and you will want to get the electrical connector to plug into it as well. Just trying to save you some money. | ||

Expert Posts: 1208 Location: SWITZERLAND | Phil, this Electronic Kit especially for Mopar Engines I purchased recently in eBay for $169. Now I have mount it on my Dodge 59 / 361, without changes to any additional cables. Before I had to redesign the schematic correspondingly. Then I turned the Ignition ON and the engine ran instantly as nothing had changed. As soon my time allows I will report and describe it in a separate Thread "My Electronic Ignition Conversion", an easy to handle and nearly "unvisible" Installation . - SERGE - Edited by sermey 2009-08-21 1:09 PM | ||

Only the Vacuum Advance Distributor and Timing Specs differs.
