Veteran Posts: 209 ![]() ![]() | I pulled this setup off of my 57 Plymouth Suburban wagon (301 2 speed auto). I reconnected all the lines to keep it clean inside, everything came appart nice with no damage so it will be easy to reinstall after a cleanup. It appears to be a dealer add on air setup? It was easy to remove and in good complete condition with the exception of the grille that goes on the under dash unit. Is there a source for parts on these or is it a junk yard hunt type of part? Thanks! Expert Posts: 1590 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Scottsdale, AZ | Now that's cool man! Though will it run the new R134? I had an older a/c in my Range Rover and its pretty expensive and difficult to get the old refrigerant.

Veteran Posts: 209 ![]() ![]() | R134? I dobt it but I suppose it may be possible to have it converted, personally I'd just spend the money and go with Freon12. Edited by Scott Smith Harms 2009-04-08 9:29 AM

Walter passed away on Jul 29, 2014. We will miss you, Walt! Posts: 5358 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Heaven Above (Formerly Oklahoma City,OK) | If the compressor is serviceable, it should be able to use the new 134. But, the entire system will need to be purged. The R134 uses a diferent type of lubricant than the older R12. and they don't get along well together. I am also given to understand that the R134 systems are very specific as to the amount of collant placed into a unit. It's specific to volume of coolant and the pressure diferential when in operation.

Veteran Posts: 209 ![]() ![]() | They may be but they sure make it hard to find them if they are. I also googled them and all I get are a bunch of hits on some kind of lawsuit they were involved in. No current contact info that leads to anyone selling AC parts, just an attorneys office (Clardy Law Firm)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7219 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | I have an old R-12 ( Freon ) system in my 60 Saratoga, it's a Mark-IV under dash. When I bought the car last year the AC was dead. The prior owner told me it had been working several weeks before I bought it. I looked for R-12 on Ebay etc., but couldn't find any. A local AC specialist wanted me to sign a contract to convert to R134-A for several hundred dollars. I said forget it. On Ebay I found a product called Freeze-12 , which is claimed to be a direct and legal replacement for R-12. I bought three cans of the stuff and charged the system last August with it. Then we took it on a 3000 mile trip after that, in some hot weather and I have to say the stuff performed way better than R134-A can ever do. They claim Freeze-12 runs even colder than R-12 and I believe it because on the coldest setting the plates inside the under dash unit iced up and I had to turn the temp up a little warmer to thaw it out, and it still ran really cold. And the really cool thing about it is that even now 9 months later it is still blowing cold. I don't know why there was no refrigerant in it when I took delivery because the prior owner said it had been fine before he shipped me the car. Here's a link to Freeze-12 web site. http://www.freeze-12.com/ This link is to Ebay auction for the stuff. Best thing about it is its cheap and runs cold !! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FREEZE-12-R12-SUBSTITUTE-FREEZE12-1-... Attachments ---------------- MARK-IV-AC (105KB - 446 downloads)

New User Posts: 1 | Clardy Air is long out of business but for a lot of years there were very popular in aftermarket air conditioning. I have personal excperience with two, both of which performed very well. They made evaporator units specifically molded for popular car models, and their suspension was very good intending to prevent rattles. In one of our GM trucks the condensate drain dripped on the passenger's feet, but we never did anything about it. i went looking for them not long ago only to find they are out of business. Old Air Products in Fort Worth Texas very likely can help someone with any repair parts needed. They used York compressors, and they cooled the cabin almost as good as factory air.
