I have been waiting for a few "round tuits" to post the following movie still photos found in a friend's estate.
Are these of the same car and movie as the last post?

56 Dodge in one of the several episodes of Highway Patrol:

For fun, I found an episode of Highway Patrol from the 1950's that featured a 56 Dodge "Highway Patrol" car.

The car is in several scenes throughout the episode. Some of the longer ones are at 8:07-8:37, 12:47-13:05, 17:19:17:42, 19:00-19:16 and 19:25-19:43

Great Collection of photos. Would make a great collage/poster for a Mopar nut to hang on his/her shop wall. Hint hint.

But before I go, we have to remember it's a bit Chicken and the egg as to where the name came from (first). For example, I'm pretty sure that the Savoy hotel in London is not named after the Plymouth.

If these theater buildings still exist,it would be cool to park a same name car under it for a photo shoot.

I’d have to say it’s a Dodge based on the chrome molding that would be at the front of the fin just behind the driver’s door.

The photo was labeled "57 Plymouth" but I have to agree with you.

Could be this 59 Dodge:

Not likely this 57 (because of the lack of chrome) but it could be this 58 (I *think* I see some chrome):

This supposedly ex-CHP 58 definitely has the chrome:

I would say that is a Dodge and not a Plymouth judging by the door handle and the chrome trim. It could be a 1957-59 model, but there's no way to tell for sure.  I don't know if you noticed it, but Broderick Crawford is handcuffed to the door frame. Yikes! What is that all about?

Oh I know it's not a Plymouth in spite of what the picture title says. The door handles are a giveaway. Plymouth used refrigerator door style handles. What I'm wodering is does anyone know why Dan Mathews (Broderick Crawford) is handcuffed into his car? Was he just clowning for a publicity still or was it a plot line from one of his epsodes?

Here is the german intro of Kojak! I watched it as a 5 year+ old and always wondered about the weird looking blue coupe. Note, at the same time there is a 60 Dodge in the picture.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOoLOpUQPbQ

Sorry for commenting on a post that is over a year old, but I couldn't resist. The bulk of the intro features stock footage taken in NYC in the mid 1960s.That's why you see a 1960 Dodge and 1961 Plymouth (among other old cars) driving around the mean streets of Manhattan. Most of those cars were gone by 1973-74 when Kojak was set. He used a 1973-74 Buick colonade sedan as his personal vehicle - I think it was the Century or Regal. I drove one back in the day, but it wasn't very fast.

Yes, I guessed that because of the other cars in that scene. Early/mid60s, NYC at its peak! During the Kojak episodes you can watch the WTC raise in the background. I always thought that Kojak Buick is ugly, for an American car.

Supposedly a guy out here in California owns one of the 56 Dodges used in “highway Patrol”. I’ve never seen it though. I’ve only seen Gary Goltz driving his Buick replica.

Also this clip from the birds. At 2.00 there is a great scene with a 60 dodge wagon with 61 Chrysler in the background.

There’s also a beautiful 1960 Dodge Polara four door hardtop wagon in “Mr. Hobbs takes a vacation”

58 DESOTOS RULE - 2019-07-23 11:19 AM

Oh I know it's not a Plymouth in spite of what the picture title says. The door handles are a giveaway. Plymouth used refrigerator door style handles. What I'm wodering is does anyone know why Dan Mathews (Broderick Crawford) is handcuffed into his car? Was he just clowning for a publicity still or was it a plot line from one of his epsodes?

Supposedly this was a gag photo taken by the crew and Broderick that was presented to Frederick Ziv (the “Fred” in the inscription) the producer of “Highway Patrol”. It was an inside joke,Broderick had placed himself under arrest for driving with a suspended license. Crawford had a problem with drink and had several DUI’s and was on thin ice with Ziv and the Highway Patrol. They supposedly had to film scenes of him driving on private roads and being towed by a camera car once they discovered his license was suspended. that’s also why in some scenes he’d have another officer drive for him or he would leave his car and ride in another officers car.

—-
“Crawford's heavy drinking increased during the filming of Highway Patrol, eventually resulting in several arrests and stops for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), which eventually gained him a suspended driving license.[While representing the California Highway Patrol as "Chief Mathews", Crawford was known with considerable embarrassment by the CHP as "Old 502" due to his habit of driving under the influence of alcohol ("Code 502" was the CHP police radio code for drunken driving). According to the show's creator, Guy Daniels, "We got all the dialogue in by noon, or else we wouldn't get it done at all. He [Crawford] would bribe people to bring him booze on the set." The show used their CHP technical advisor, Officer Frank Runyon, to keep the actor sober: "I was told to keep that son of a bitch away from a bottle. I think his license was suspended. Some scenes had to be shot on private roads so that Brod could drive." Eventually the drinking strained the show's relationship with the CHP as well as Crawford's relationship with ZIV.”

My son just finished the book "Holes" and wants to see the Disney movie based on it. When he showed me the trailer I saw the back end of this '58 Saratoga.

Took me awhile to find this. Back in the 90's my wife did a lot of background and stand in work for the movie industry. Right before
I sold my Windsor it was used in a scene of a 2 part mini series called The Siege at Ruby Ridge starring Randy Quaid and Laura Dern.
my wife was Laura Derns' stand in for the filming of the movie. Got to meet a lot of the actors and hang oout at the after party with them
Some different characters in that industry...

The owner of that 58 Saratoga was a member on the forum here for quite a while. I think he has since sold the car.

From 1963 movie, "Violent Midnight"
1960 Polara hardtop wagon, with dog dish hubcaps and blackwall tires. Looks like it has 15 inch wheels
