Expert 5K+ Posts: 7210 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | I haven't built anything lately but picked up a Danbury Mint 56 DeSoto. They also have this one in the Adventurer in black/gold. I also found out a few days ago from Rick Hanmore who's in charge of new Danbury Mint car diecast projects that the 57 Imperial project they had been working on has been cancelled. Rick said " I am sorry to report that the factory that was developing that model, (and many of our other projects ), has been closed by the Chinese gov't, an issue that has to do with rising labor rates in that country. We have lost a lot of our tooling for die cast cars because of this. We are still working on a few projects, but all of the new cars that were in development are no longer available to us. I am as disappointed as you that the Imperial model has been, (at least for now), cancelled. It was one of my pet projects." I'm 42 now,I still have most of the models that I built in the late 70's and 80's many are Jo-Han Mopars, Used to sit in my room and listen to Doo Wop and Jazz (Philly radio stations etc) Now my two children love to listen to the same music and build models, funny how strong the genes are LOL.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7210 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | I'm currently working on a replica of the Saratoga, but the model itself is a New Yorker, a vintage JoHan issue with new grille and bumper assemblies from Modelhaus. The chassis is incorrect, it shows a full frame instead of unibody. I'm waiting on a set of wire wheels with whitewall tires to come. I'm using actual left over paint from the car. The model doesn't have the bird-bath deck lid either. Expert 5K+ Posts: 7210 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Since there are 2 threads on models, and I started my models in this thread, I'll finish this one here too. I bought this on Ebay before Christmas, it's an old JoHan kit that didn't get built, so I've been working on it off and on since then to somewhat match my Saratoga ( Stella) . The paint is actual paint left over from my car. I sprayed the model, then wet-sanded it with K&S Sanding Film from the hobby shop, then cut polished it with Novus fine scratch remover. The wheels are Danbury-Mint issue reproductions of Chrysler wires. They didn't come with the kit. This is my second attempt with Bare Metal Foil, and I have to say that I am not great at applying it, ( eyesight and steadiness of hands :stressed:?) and if I ever build another model, ( likely not ) I'll go back to silver paint for the trim. I used silver paint on some of the finer items on this. This model didn't come with an opening hood and engine. The other thing is that this is a New Yorker, my own car is a Saratoga - so this doesn't have the side color sweep like my car - Nor does it have the toilet seat deck lid, which was optional on all models. The rear clip seems noticeably "stubby". Did those wires come with the model ? Brent, the car is actually ( proportionally), 4 inches too short - on the front end - not the rear. The mold was made, I believe, from the same basic mold that JoHan did the 1960 Adventurer from. The REAL Adventurer and the New Yorker are on different wheelbases, ADV is 122, NYER is 126. I happen to have the 1960 Adventurer JoHan model right here to compare with, and there's no difference in the distance from the front door to the front fender opening on the 2 models, or the overall length, for that matter. The New Yorker should have the extra four inches in that area ahead of the front door. The wire wheels are from Danbury Mint, and are for a 1/24th scale model not a 1/25th scale so they are a tiny bit too big ..... The rear clip seems to be in proportion, at least to me. Maybe it's the photo. In reality, if you look at the real car, you can actually see that it is a "long hood-short deck".... hard to believe - but the fins give it the illusion / appearance of length at the rear. I just measured up the hood and decklid on my Saratoga. The hood is 60 inches from the windshield to the front edge. The deck lid is only 48 inches from the back window to the outer edge of the lid. So I re-iterate, the fins give it the illusion / appearance of length at the rear. Edited by imopar380 2013-02-18 11:16 PM

1:43 scale (approx. Lionel O Scale). $277.35 delivered You would think I would be the perfect target customer, but I can't justify it! For that price, I don't like the '57 hood badge on the front or the Adventurer interior! I bet I know what car they modeled it on.

Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10163 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . This what I am planning: I present the following (with the attached images). Bottomline: I hope to create a reasonable facsimile (at 1/25th scale) of my 1956 Dodge D500 (hemi-engined) Custom Royal 4 dr sedan, complete with detailed under carriage, engine bay and interior. To accomplish this I have purchased the following as the sources of the components for this one-off model: 1. An Aluminum Model Toy (AMT) 1/25 Promo (give way) of a 1956 Dodge 4dr Hardtop. There are many of these out there on eBay. Almost all of them (including the one I bought), have roofs and rear fenders that have sagged over the years, perhaps due to heat. I have seen one or two examples that aren't as sagged but the sellers of those ones know what they have ( a good one) and the pricing is stupid. The one I bought has known problems (cracked rear fender and a missing hub cap) so it was relatively cheap. It was moulded in a light blue plastic that is similar to my car so that was attractive. That would mean that, in theory, I would not have to paint a big section of the model, especially the parts with the Custom Royal logo (on the sides) and various hood and trunk badges. *BUT* the rear fenders on the one I bought have sagged, which looks stupid. I would like to correct that (somehow). So if you have expertise, I am open to suggestions. I think I can glue the crack in the left rear fender but that doesn't cure the sag. The AMT promo model was made for kits so the chassis is metal and has a friction (flywheel) motor so I will NOT be using that. On the upside the front and rear grills and bumpers are metal (chromed) and aren't that terrible. 2. A MCW (Model Car World) Finishes 1956 Dodge 1/25 scale resin model of a Coronet D500 2dr sedan. MCW makes these on-order and they are currently about 3 months behind filling their orders so when I found one on eBay that had been started but not finished, I jumped on it. It came with an interior (unfinished) and a fake chassis that the previous owner over spray painted (too much paint- obscures the details). It was the first thing I bought and I would have had to figure out how to make it into a 4 dr (filling the rear end of the 2 dr and carving out grooves to mark the 4 drs - doable but fraught with potential for making mistakes. Once I bought the AMT 4 dr model, the MCW model became a donor for the roof and A and C pillars, "glass" and the sedan B pillar. And maybe at least part of the rear fenders. (To correct the AMT's sagged fenders). It also has tiny but accurate decals of the D500 badges for the hood and trunk. The MCW chassis does fit under the AMT shell so I could have stopped there. BUT I didn't. 3. Some how, some way I bumped into a review of a Moebius Models 1956 Chrysler 300 1/25 scale model that is very detailed and has a great separate component chassis and opening hood with a detailed 354 hemi. Once saw that, I had to have it to steal the chassis and engine bay. I checked out eBay and found several. But then I found one local to me at Burnaby Hobbies and bought it and a couple of types of glue. (No paint - yet) One Moebius 300 review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp_bvW4favU Another: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XngjRqw9AGo The 56 Chryslers had a 126 inch wheel base whereas the 56 Dodges had a 120 inch wheel base so will have to cut out 6/25 of an inch (0.24") of the chassis, floor pan and drive shaft. The Chryslers were wider than the Dodges as well so a small amount of the rear wheel tubs will have to be trimmed away to allow the Moebius floor pan to fit under the AMT body. (I have done a trial fit and the floor pan fits not bad already - except for the rear wheel tubs). The Chrysler 300's 354 cu in hemi had a block length of 21.78" vs. 20.844" for the Dodge D500's 315 cu in hemi so 0.936/25 = 0.037" actual difference, so I won't do anything with that except sand off the "Chrysler FirePower" embossed on the valve covers and paint the covers red and black like the 56 Dodge D500s. The engine will be silver otherwise. Not sure what to do with the Chrysler 300 dual 4 bbls vs my D500 with a single 4 bbl (there was a D500-1 with dual 4 bbls but they were pretty much race only). So the main areas that I need your help with are the sagging rear fenders. Suggestions welcomed. See attached photos that go with the above text. Expert 5K+ Posts: 7210 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | The latest update on my model of my 60 Saratoga - I added a form of the body side trim on the model which is actually a New Yorker. I also changed the chassis on it. The default chassis that came with the model, in the box was a 1959 full frame chassis, and the rear wheels sat too far back.... I found a chassis on Ebay from a 1960 DeSoto Jo-Han model and installed it on the car - the rear wheels now sit in the correct position in the fender opening. The model was labelled a New Yorker, but actually is the same body as the 60 DeSoto model with alterations, on a 122 inch wheelbase, while in reality, the 60 New Yorker was on a 126 inch wheelbase. The default full frame chassis that came with the "New Yorker" model was exactly the same chassis that is on my 1959 New Yorker Jo-Han model, which fits that car perfectly. It's strange that the `960 New Yorker model came with the wrong chassis, when the 1960 DeSoto model chassis would have been the correct one. The kit had never been opened before I bought it.
