Sometimes I see people advertising 56 Dodge D500s as the car that set the records at Bonneville. Whatever their motive, that is not true. The tests were done in the fall of 1955, well before the December 22 1955 announcement of the D500 option. This advert from the Dec. 1955 issue of Mechanix Illustrated had to be set up for printing well before Dec. (probably Oct. 1955). SO there is that and perhaps more importantly, the mention of the 230 hp engine. Er...that is the Power Pack (4 bbl dual exhaust) 315 Poly option, not the 260 D500 hemi. Just sayin'

In this case FL stands for "Funland" and the picture war allegedly taken in 1960, but since there are no newer than 59 models, I guess it is 1959, or late 58.

Is that a Borgward Isabella station wagon in front of that Ford?

Nice shot from NYC, a few FLs to be seen.

^^^^They should have left the 57/58 wagon design unchanged for 59. Expensive uglifying just to introduce completely new cars for 60.

I disagree. I think the '59 Plymouth wagon design is a big improvement over the '57-'58. At least now it has real fins on it.

I'm glad there is a 56 Desoto in the background, so I can post this beautiful 59 Olds 4dht space ship. The 59 GM 4d ht design goes very well
with the 59 Olds and Chevy bodys but looks just terrible on a 59 Cadillac, imo.

Here is a bigger version (that I can't download):

https://www.flickr.com/photos/mss2400/34495940240

and if you click on the arrows there are a couple of FLs too, like this wonderful picture with 49 star flags.

You can get the large picture by saving the entire website. Go in the folder and pull out the largest picture, and delete the rest afterward.

I usually take screen shots and cut/downsize them to below this sites **** max size limit, yet, it does not work.

I saved it as described and then resampled in IrfanView (because I am at work). Sometimes, they won't let you even right click or save the site in any way, so you have to use PrintScreen in those cases.

Thinking more on the lines of a 1959 Dodge Truck. Looks like the 1959 Dodge Truck grilles with the large rectangular holes and the chrome bar along the front edge of the hood. If you look through the windshield you can see the standard, small non-wraparound rear window.

Well its got a truck mirror, like on the Dodge trucks pictured and the rear window has the same shape. Couple of things appear odd, like the shadow on the hood, but it seems to have a 5 letter name on the hood (3 letters visible) so its gotta be a truck (mirror) and very likely a Dodge.

Yes, I can tell a 56 and a 58 apart, but just pressed the wrong button. And I'm pretty sure you know the difference between a 58 and 59 too
Plain side trim and no whitewalls and picture taken when the car was pretty new, very unusual for a convertible.

Oops...yes, I know a 58 from a 59 and I specifically told my fingers to type 58 but they rebelled and typed 59 instead. Corrected now in my post but to live on in the QUOTE forever.

Yes, it was, a couple of fotos, but not sure of this particular one.
I want to know too, from what state or country is that license plate?

It says right on it where it is from. NJ stands for New Jersey. They had some funky looking plates in Jersey back then.

That's one way to tow an old car home, I suppose. Where do you suppose he put the trunk lid? I'm guessing somewhere in the old car. Judging by the license tag on the old car it must have been somewhere in Europe.

Look again. You can see the butt end of the trunk lid at the passenger side of the old car showing the license plate area.

It is the German Autobahn 1962 (sigh). I posted a couple of pictures of that, many years ago, with the name of the owner of the Dodge or a link, IIRC.

That top photo looks like there must have been at least one fatality.

Joe, that is a terrible photo but if there was only the driver in the car maybe no fatalities. The guard rail might had missed him.
