Expert 5K+ Posts: 9896 Location: Lower Mainland BC | hemidave - 2018-08-16 8:16 AM At the airport Every time that I see a full sized 1960 Dodge, I am amazed they kept the 2dr hardtop's fins on the full sized Dodge sedans (and 4dr hardtops). Forming that rear door must have been a b*tch. When it came to the 1960 Dart, they got smart and started the fins after the rear doors.

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | 56D500boy - 2018-08-16 9:40 AM Every time that I see a full sized 1960 Dodge, I am amazed they kept the 2dr hardtop's fins on the full sized Dodge sedans (and 4dr hardtops). Forming that rear door must have been a b*tch. When it came to the 1960 Dart, they got smart and started the fins after the rear doors. The rear quarter panels were two piece. Every fin has a strip of trim down the peak of the fin to hide the welds and dumdum. At the rear of the fin the seam from the end of the fin to the end of the panel (above the taillamp) was filled with lead and smoothed out. The seam from the taillamp to the bumper was filled with dumdum inside to keep the water out, but it was not filled in. The Dart's fin was the same length as the quarter panel on the sedan so the trim on top of the fin was fine. No other seams to hide on top while the seam from the taillamp to the bumper was handled as on the Polara. Always wanted to see the inside of the rear Matador/Polara doors. The parts book lists the exterior sheet metal as on piece (ie, one part number). That does seem quite a sharp bend at the top of the fin. The metal workers in the Engineering department were always checking the new car designs to make sure there would be as few problems with metal tearing when a part was being stamped. The rear quarter on the 1955 was one design they asked the stylists if they could widen out the ridge down the rear quarter panel and make it more rounded. Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Ray Bell - 2018-08-22 5:42 PM I hope the Corvair was a manual... So you could clutch-start it. Looks like they are going to get a set of booster cables to get power from the Chrysler (or may be the other way). The Powerglide used in the Corvair had a rear oil pump so it was possible to push start it. Get up to about 15 mph, put it into Low, and turn the ignition switch to on. The Torqueflite in the Chrysler also had a rear pump so you could do the same trick. Had a 1965 Valiant Signet with battery problems. Would park the car on a hill, facing downhill. When it was time to go, put the car into neutral, remove the parking brake, roll out onto the street, turn the ignition on, shift to 1, and when the speed hit 15 mph it would start. Had to wait for pay day for the money for a battery.

Location: Parts Unknown | hemidave - 2018-09-03 2:39 AM We used to have this much snow when I was a kid ====================================== We still do here. In 2008 we got 8' in December alone ! The following year we got 10' in December !!! We had roofs caving in all over town. Whole shopping centers and similar commercial properties were flattened. It was amazing. Last year was pretty mellow, but the year before was another wing-dinger for snow.
