Expert Posts: 2308 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | Not exactly a Forward Look in a picture or on a postcard, but here is a sixty second commercial for the 1956 Dodge Texan, a model that was sold only in that state - or at least that is what is said. It is in this You Tube video of 50s commercials; it starts at 2:00 and ends at 3:00. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYMEfiuxCxE&t=9s

Expert Posts: 1287 | Mike -- You sure are right about the Garden of the Gods. That area is off-limits to cars now as it has been returned to a more natural look that eliminates the roadway and vehicles to improve the aesthetic quality of pics taken from the same spot. Sid -- I liked the one of the A&W. Man, if that doesn't capture of the essence of "cruisin' the gut" back in the FWL days, I don't know what does: two "Shoeboxes" and two "Lead Sleds," to say nothing of the short-sleeved shirts still rolled up two turns. You have no idea how hard we guys tried for the "cool" look even in Colorado. Joe

Funny you mentioned rolled up sleeves, i wore that today, a hot day, the sun melted my well greased pompadour and the sleeves always kept unrolling. Expert Posts: 2473 Location: Dalveen, Queensland, Australia | At least there was plenty of witnesses... By the way, on our first US trip my wife overheard a conversation between a mother and her teenage daughter, who was looking to buy some clothing. Apparently the daughter was having trouble making up her mind, her exasperated mother said, "Come on girl, corral your mind!" The things you hear in Kentucky... In the 1950s and early 60s, although the counter was about 3/4 that size in our area. ================================= The counter at Woolworth's and Newberry's stayed largely looking like that into the 1970's. I never cared for the food, .... really plain and bland, but the store and fixtures were all very old and cool until both folded in the early 80's. That photo must be from a very large store. Expert Posts: 2473 Location: Dalveen, Queensland, Australia | That's the Navajo Bridge over Marble Canyon, which I believe is the third canyon carved by the Colorado River... It was built in 1929 but became 'substandard' with increasing truck loadings and roadbuilding standards regarding road widths, so it was replaced in 1995 by a very similar bridge right next to it which met the modern standards. I have some pics, but there's no Forward Look cars in them! Edited by Ray Bell 2018-05-15 5:26 PM

Expert Posts: 2473 Location: Dalveen, Queensland, Australia | Maybe 1928? Here's the plaque at the Eastern end of the bridge, and the two bridges side by side with the newer one to the left... This I recall was reached after coming from Monument Valley, stopping overnight at some little town, then in the morning turning off the road headed South to enable me to head to the North side of the Grand Canyon. Just the other side of the bridge is the 'Cliff Dwellers' area, I took a couple of pics of that and then just headed on through.
