I wonder if that's a parking lot at a Ford plant- almost all Fords, Lincolns, and Mercurys.

My thoughts exactly.

The photo with the model surrounded by new Imperials on the assembly line in #556785 was taken at Imperial's assembly plant at 8505 West Warren, used for 1959-1961 models. It was used by DeSoto for body production (1950-1958) and V8 engine assembly (1952-1957).

The gold Imperial is one of those photos of the car with models. To be placed in a proper setting later.

Attached is the final version for publication :

Similar but different poses. Unless that woman is standing on a soap box, she's 7 ft tall (yes I know she's at least standing on the sidewalk)

I noticed it.

The wheelcovers are different? The rear tire on a "ready" picture at right looks really big, what size it might be.

They usually take a number of photos at a shoot, with models in different positions. So both photos were taken at the same location and time, and the advertising people chose the photo to go with the background they wanted to use. Or vice versa.

With the woman standing on the curb, it doesn't help that the driver appears is standing on the road.

Forgot to add this -

The wheel covers have been air brushed. The rear wheel has also had the shadow removed which makes the tire / wheel cover look bigger.

Maybe they used the same 7 footer that modelled for this 56 Chrysler advertizing poster:

The photos are too poor quality to be enlarged very well. Personally, I only spot 2 1955s at what must be a 1963 Road America event.

Isn't that a '56 De Soto between the VW and the wagon?

It's a 55 Desoto. Check out the red ovals in the photo that I enlarged slightly (above). 55 Plymouth at 1 o'clock above the 63 split window Vette

Sorry, I thought that was a '56... I've only ever seen one of that model and it was a model which was never sold here...

If there's only two Forward Looks in the pack, that's the same as I can see Jaguar XK models! And what about that Chrysler next to the Corvair, is that a Newport from '62?

It looks like a Genie on the track, possibly chasing a Cobra.

I saw that Chrysler (convertible) and was thinking that it was a 63 and maybe a 300. (EDIT: Not a 62. Regardless. 62/63 are not Forward Look by our 55-61 definition). There is a 63 Dodge over there beside a 55 Chev but again, not FL.

there is more in this picture that i was expecting. Even that FL maybe not there, I never saw this amount of British sports cars together, several Vettes including a split window, an Alfa and at least one Mercedes. Also a white phantom car to the right that I have no idea what it is and a 30's car.

pretty sure thats a porsche right to the austin healey frog or bugeye and E-type 4 cars behind the 55 desoto and a split window micro bus 1 car behind the E, which could be, if a samba, one of the, if not the most expensive car by 2018 in that lot. who would have thought of that in 1963?

I think that sports car just above the trunk of the 63 Chevy Impala 2dr hardtop might be a Devin (one of the first "kit" cars)

That black car on the left beside the white 1962 Studebaker Daytona convertible is a 1933 or 1934 Ford V8. To the right of the Studebaker is a 1962 Valiant wagon and behind the Studebaker is a FWD Austin 1100.

Now, using the second photo, if you go over to the 1963 Dodge, the next row back and over to the right is an early 1950's Hudson (1951 or 52). Then, if you go along the same row to the right there is a space then a black car. After that is another space then a 1960 Dodge Dart hardtop. You can see the fin, the tube shape down the side for the tail lamp and the sun shining off the shiny stamped aluminum grille.

That would be a 'Devin', not a 'Devlin'...

I once introduced the owner of a De Soto-powered one to this forum.

Like many small towns, Woodsville has gone to s**t since then

Then

"Now" (August, 2014) (Hotel and Diner are gone (I would guess due to a fire in the hotel), still not many FL cars, go figure - but here is a Chrysler 300 there)

how true, ever since i was 7 years old i wanted to see the city of sparta illinois one day, nothing special, just an ordinary mid-western american small town that happened to be featured in the film "in the heat of the night" from 1966 (that very film changed my life and got me into FL cars).

just a few days ago i used google street view and went along main street, sparta downtown, the way chief gilespy cruised in its patrol car. well.... there is almost nothing left. nothing that reminds you of that old town from days gone by. i was shocked and depressed. i planed a visit, but not anymore. what happened to america? that old beautiful, carefully build red brick buildings replaced by ugly, standardized, disposable **** or wall mart parking lots that could be in china or any s.h. country. it is heartbreaking.

in the pic below, believe it or not, all whats left is the wooden pole with the lamp! Was that town hit by a tornado?

Gosh that looks horrible Sid, America changed a lot. I also came to America looking for the movies scenery and I had a F surprise. Even while living here very close from my house I saw a Chrysler dealer switching to Mini. I can tell you that things change a ton since 2001, American manufacturing just vanished in a few years.

Don't believe the car is an airport wagon but it is a 1960 Belvedere Custom Suburban. Looks to have a unique two tone paint job - the roof and the side of the front fender around and ahead of the wheel opening are done in the same colour.

The car undoubtedly has been used. There is a 1961 Dodge Dart in the background of the third photo.

The photos may have been taken at different times. In the first photo the car is missing the letter Y, while in the third photo the letters M, O, U and T are missing.

can't make out the colour of the roof, but that would have been the optional sporttone. very popular with furys and belvederes (or sport/custom suburbans) that have chrome mouldings to separate the colors. just the roof a differnt colour was called tutone, iirc.

didn't notice the missing hood letters. weird. maybe for some reason foto chopped? otherwise the square holes for the letters should be visible.
