I still wonder why more people here don't download Ifranview - it's free - and set up pics better for the forum.

The Berthoud Pass and Custom Royal photos are over twice the width of my screen. Such sizes are worthless.

You really do need to be able to see the whole pic on your screen at once.

In my tablet's Chrome browser all of these unmodified supersize pics are automatically adjusted to fit
the screen, but when using my Windows PC I must scroll to the right to see the rest half of picture.

General Ward “G.W.” Thaxton
Elkview, West Virginia
December 31, 1918 - November 29, 2009

General Ward Thaxton, 90, of Charleston passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009 after a short illness.

A lifelong resident of Kanawha County, G.W. was born December 31, 1918, the son of the late Howard Hansen and Florence Lilly Thaxton. Upon his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy after World War II, “G.W.” owned and operated Stonewall Service Station on Charleston’s West Side for nearly a decade. General later retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education. His long standing membership of the First Baptist Church of South Charleston helped instill his Christian values in his family and all who loved him. He had a strong dedication to the needs of his family and community and always lived life to the fullest exhibiting the highest ethics and moral fiber possible.

From Spinout's posting above, 16th picture with plenty of FLs and the 58 Olds on the left side, there is a rear end view of a 1959 Desoto SW (thanks Mark) in the center of the picture

Does anyone have an idea what the location is of that picture?

Doc, They already gone!
The guy looking under the hood of that filthy Station wagon is probably thinking " what the heLL am I to do with this hot mess!!"

Some interesting pics further up this page. The 60 Imperial with the Imperial badge in the grill center is different to all I have seen before, I wonder why it was moved??

The 318 squadron F-102A tail flashes are brilliant. I searched up and read the history of how the FL emblem ended up on the squadrons planes. Very interesting stuff. Thanks for posting that pic Sid.
I wonder if they had Chrysler's blessing to use the emblem, or if the modification made it unique?
Steve.

You're kidding, right? That's the standard trim for a 58 Plymouth Savoy with two-tone body option (Sportone B in factory litterature, where Sportone A is the Belvedere "hockey stick").

Exactly!

Plus, the car on the black and white photo posted above has the extra front fender and door optional upper trim moulding that was available starting in spring of 1958.

Wow, I've never seen a '60 Chrysler ambulance before. Neat! But it looks like they should have brought the Chrysler hearse instead.

Definitely Europe. Probably Holland based on:

a) the totalled car is a 1960's 4 door BMW probably a 1800 like the 1968 below:
b) there is a Simca (I think) peaking out at the rear of the ambulance
c) looks like a Renault truck in the background
d) the copyright logo on the photo" rijks....org" = Dutch
e) the skinny wide plate on the abulance is white on black which fits the time frame for Dutch plates (see below)

This was Mamie Eisenhower going somewhere in a 1956 Imperial Limo in wintertime. Look at the poor slob who has to chain up the tires. There's somebody else in the limo with Mamie but you can't really see who it was. I'm betting it was President Eisenhower though.Too bad there's probably no other infomation about this photo.

The car behind the Eisenhower car is a 1956 Imperial, but the Eisenhower car is a 1955 model. The LWB sedans and limousines added a small fin to the rear fenders as well as modifying the side trim for 1956.

Production of 1955 Crown models totalled 172, not enough to justify new rear quarter panels. Thus the addtion of small fins.

As there is no one in the driver's seat, have a pretty good idea who was chaining up the tires.

Based on the numbered hood, the "over the top" protection, the completely unpainted car, and the background, I would guess this is a factory production line photo. Can't identify the car though.

Whether or not you call that a body man is between you and the body guys you know . . .

All the protection is probably because he is dealing with the leaded seam.

1960 Body Man -

Looks like someone working in the prototype shop. Prototypes would be built by hand and then painted, trimmed and sent out to the test track. They would also be used for early promo photos and brochure work. Some of them were neat like the 1963 Valiant that was a Signet hardtop on the driver's side and a V-200 sedan on the passenger.

This car reminds me of the 1960 Valiant with its sloping rear end and cat's eye tailights.
