Thanks' for sharing those nice pictures Sid! I was actually bidding on one Dinky Toy '59 Saratoga and for a long time it seemed to get a low price - then it skyrocketed out of my "nice to have! list

yes, by now its almost impossible to find a good deal on ebay.com for us oversea buyers, mostly because "shipping" skyrocketed.

right now on ebay germany around €109 and box only for 65 in another auction, not sure if thats a good price:

I just sold Dinky 192 '57 DeSoto Fireflite without box in Swedish' Tradera auction site for 190 krona (€20 or $21 USD), although 22 bids. Would it have been suitable to your budget?

I've sold stuff on Tradera too Mark - there's always a risk for getting low payment on the auctions.

Actually I wanted to find the '60 Saratoga at a reasoable price, but I think that only Western Models Kim Classic made those.

Last time I saw one for sale it was well over €200

Looks like a '56 Chrysler, and the fins on the deeper buried one look like a FL of some kind.

Hard to say, but looks like a '55 Ford Customline.. EDIT: a non-curved rear door's window frame indicate it's a station wagon. So, a Country Sedan.

Nope. My first one was all white with a green interior (which the pictured one probably has).
The skirts lasted only about a year as three sets got stolen within about a year and a half and then I put "baby moons" on her.
Nice picture, though.

This one really had me scratching my head. It looked SO familiar !
It is a LONG way from Tacoma, although if one took that road going
over the bridge and kept going for 30 miles, they'd end up in Tacoma !

This was taken along old 99 in the Nisqually delta as the highway starts
it's climb up the hill on the north/east side. The OLD road is seen at left.
It originally had an at-grade crossing of the Northern Pacific mainline
tracks, but the big, sweeping bridge to the right carrying traffic over the
tracks was built some time around 1950. Note the RR telegraph poles.
These stood well into the 1980's. I believe the powerline is still there,
although probably rebuilt by now.

In 1970, or so, I-5 was completed in a direct crossing of the delta and
pulled most of the N-S traffic off the old 99 route that followed the hillside.
It would be hiding about a quarter mile dead ahead through the woods,
as the camera is pointed.

Chances are, I knew the son of the Trooper whose car is shown. His
name was Dale, and he was a friend of a guy I worked for. His father was
assigned that section of road and Dale had wonderful photo albums full
of pictures he took of wrecks and other scenes his Dad attended to when
Dale got to "tag along" on Saturdays.

Today, you can access that same site from the Mounts Road exit from I-5,
heading south/east.

Great story doc, and if you are a bit more specific i could probably find the road, it is any river or other road crossing the area? I can see is a predominant route 5 area.

Engler Motor sales today, it seems like it was a Studebaker dealer in one point in time. The Studebaker badges still in the upper corners..

============================================

I did a Google Earth search and this is the copied coordinates:

https://www.google.com/maps/@47.0708653,-122.6954163,3a,75y,90t/data...

How do you get the screen copy to show as the image ?

On the map, I-5 was closer than I remember. The map shows
the road as being Old Pacific Highway/Nisqually Road SW. Look
for where the road crosses over the railroad tracks. That is the
place. The old photo is looking north, toward I-5. When I was
traveling that road, it looked a lot more like the old photo than
it does now.

Great work Doc.

Check the "print screen" button in your keyboard. That would copy the screen. Then you can open "paint" program and press the keys "Control" and "C" the letter to copy it.

At first sight I thought it was a Victor...

Then, maybe a Snipe. But neither really seem to fit. Some kind of Opel or Taunus?

It is a Vauxhall Victor. And its nestled next to a Pontiac The black and hubcaps makes it appear to be a very spartan vehicle. Pontiac dealers sold Vauxhalls in the U.S. (1957-1962) and Pontiac-Buick dealers in Canada (1949-1972).
