That's a really cool picture. Well composed, great color pallatte, and it really says something about the time and place it was taken. Very interesting subject as well, that guy's outfit realy stands out amid the background. Do you know who the artist is? Or is that just some random pic you found online?

A closer look...

Is that some kind of a badge just ahead of the door? Does that help identify it?

Just a random picture from the mid/late 60s I guess. Artist?

Regarding these 56 Dodges, does anybody got any info about this dealer car show, i.e. location, date, more photos, etc?

It has a four door Lancer in the same colour combo that my uncle had (who inspired me to like and eventually - 50 years later - buy my 56 Dodge). There is the La Femme as well.

Maybe more importantly to me is the Sapphire White and Oriental Coral 2 dr hardtop sitting there. Those are the colours of the first 56 D500s and I would love to know when the photo was taken. The D500s were released in late 1955/early 1956 so if I was guessing, I would put this show as January or February 1956. (??)

Answering my own question (is anybody out there?):

https://digitalcollections.detroitpubliclibrary.org/islandora/object...

Now to contact the Detroit Library to get more info.

But wait (I was right about the approximate date (Jan/Feb 1956, actually Feb.18 to Feb.26, 1956 so the probability that the Sapphire and Coral Lancer is a D500 goes up a lot.

Nice work finding the pictures, as usual Sid. Love the pic of the 59's on the train. I wonder where the hubcaps are stored? In the car, or on the train or sent separately to the respective dealers? Must have been a lucrative business, relieving cars of hubcaps during transit to the dealers. I wonder how many hoards of midnight spares are still out there from back in the day of our cars.

Steve.

Steve --
Generally, the wheel covers were in the trunk as often were the special badges (i.e., "scare emblems") such as D500, Golden Commando Power, etc.

I used to work at a Plymouth dealer in the mid 80s where my job was to inspect new car arrivals from the transports for damage. The hubcaps and license plate brackets and hardware were shipped in the trunk. The cars would often arrive with heavy exhaust fallout from the diesel trains. The cars were then washed down with a chemical to remove train exhaust.
On at least 3 different occasions new cars arrived with bullet holes in them from being shipped on the train cars.
On one occasion the salesman told me that a New Plymouth voyager was arriving from the transport and to detail/check it in as ASAP as the buyers were called to pick it up and they were coming from a long distance. The van arrived with 3 bullet holes in it!!! Holes in the door panels, seats etc. I ran to the office to tell the salesman to cancel the pickup. It was too late they were on there way. They arrive excited to pick up there new car
Salesman told them,Ahhh,Ummm, don't worry we can fix it

The 2nd pic shows a 59 Dodge wagon, you can zoom in here (maybe someone can post a bigger picture):
