We now have yet another new account rep at Coker -- You must call Eric Hawkins at the number below to receive the discount.

Hi All,

We are a go for the Club Discount (10-15%) on the tires at Coker Tire (http://www.coker.com), so if you need tires, now is a great time to get them!

Here's what you need to do to get the discount.

  1. Go to http://www.coker.com and select the style and size of tires you need. If you are unsure, the account representative will be able to help you make a selection.
  2. Next, call Coker at 1-800-251-6336, and hit 2 - 5 - 3 when the recording starts. That will bring you to Irwin, our account rep.
  3. Tell him you are in with the 'Club Order' with DAVE STRAGAND, Customer #138492 - he will give you the club discount with your order.
  4. Please drop me an email after your order just to let me know how many tires you ordered if you can.

Here's a few key points:

  • We do not need to all order the same type/size/brand - they can all be different.
  • You CAN order them now with the discount and pick them up at a car show/swap meet at the Coker trailer - just specify that is what you would like to do when you place your order.
  • Shipping of your chosen tires will be direct to you (or your tire installer), and you would arrange payment with Coker directly.

-Dave

Bob, you should seriously consider buying a set of the Goodyear Super Cushion tires that are being re-popped now.

Big M, on this website, has them on his daily driver 57 Fury; saw it/him at Hot August Nights and the tires have great tread-
wear/life expectancy on them, and he was highly complimentary of their construction and their performance.

John Big M has all of the information on his tires.

I saw the fronts at Hot August Nights, and thought that they might be new (great tread remaining; no real wear on them).

John said that his Fury was a daily-driver with them-on it.

I think that the Super Cushions retail for about $150.00.

My present Federal brand van-rated radials are apparently NLA, but they cost about $200.00 each 6-7 years ago.

A couple interesting factoids about radial tires (from Hemmings Classic Cars, 9/13) is that they 'need' more positive caster,
and positive camber adjustments than bias ply tires, because radial sidewalls can cause the car to wallow and to wander.

Positive camber and positive caster will create a self-centering action in the steering system.

Bias ply tires, with positive caster/camber adjustments, and with rebuilt steering and suspension systems should perform
'almost' as well as performance radials, and they should provide a more comfortable ride, than steel belted radials.

All that may be true but my only real world experience with switching from bias to radials says it was true on one car but not true on another. On a 69 Firebird 400 that came with the Belted wide ovals I could run the car up to 134 mph (hitting the 5000 rpm redline) and the car was rock steady. When I put on radials it became squirrely at anything over 90 mph. Numerous alignments and changes of radial tires never changed that. However, on another 69 400 with radials I had no problem with stability up to the 120 mark, fastest I took that car. Can't say I noticed any difference in ride between the belted/bias and the radials. A 72 Datsun I had with plain bias tires rode rough and tracked all over the road (manual steering). Not a very pleasant car to drive. I put a set of radials on it and it was like a whole new car. Smoothed out the ride and all the tracking and jerking and hard steering went away. Didn't get it aligned with the new tires so it wasn't the alignment.

I drove a rental 1969 Charger R/T...with its OEM red streak Wide-Boots (or whatever they were).

I remarked to my passenger that that car rode as well, at 80 MPH, as my family's living room couch (standing-still).

We (most of us, anyway) don't drive on the Wide Boots, but that Charger had NO handling problems, with those bias
belted tires on it.

Horrie's next set of tires may well be Goodyear Super Cushions.
