Location: Fairfax, Minnesota | My son and I are tearing down the 413 we bought. Can someone tell us if there is a special tool that we need. We have removed all the crank bearing caps except for the most rear. It looks as if we need to remove a cast peice from the bottom of the block to get to the rear cap bolts. There are two small bolts under the pan gasket which appear to hold the peice in place. They look unusual - no flat sides?
What do we use to take these out?
Thanks,

Location: Fairfax, Minnesota | Thanks. That worked. A first the bolt head looked almost round. This is our first attempt at tearing down an engine.

Location: STL, MO | Those bolts will also work to hold your freshly machined block to an engine stand, then when you go to reassemble everything and realize you "lost" those special bolts, you can go to a junkyard with hand tools, lift a motor enough to pull the pan, rob the bolts, go home and finish assembly, then when you go to put the motor in the car you'll realize where you "lost" the bolts, at least thats how my dumbass did it 30yrs ago on my first engine, I think I'm experincing redemption. |
