Veteran Posts: 139 | Hello all, I've enjoyed the Forward Look site for years and finally joined up. Wanted to share a pic of my 58 Coronet that has been a member of our family since new, my grandparents having purchased it originally. You probably know that that color scheme of Gold & Yellow was one of the 'advertised' color schemes, in 1958, but, I've never seen a Coronet Club Coupe in those colors before. Do you know anything about the addition of that 1959-like rear view mirror, the Lance-and-shield emblems, and the hood ornaments to it? Nice looking ride!

Veteran Posts: 139 | Thank you all for the nice comments. Neil, I live in New Philadelphia, Ohio and the Dodge was sold new in Dover, Ohio at Weinsz Motor Co. (sold out in the '60s) I added the hood ornaments (NOS), rear antennas (NOS but incorrect base) and Lance and Shield emblems about 30 years ago because I liked the look of these items. The copper upper body color is incorrect to original. It was originally gold, and repainted copper in 1977. I was only 17 at the time and i don't remember why my dad and I chose this color over the original gold. I hope to restore it to original one day. I'll be posting more pictures and have some good stories to tell about growing up with my car. Mark

Veteran Posts: 139 | Thank You for the welcome! Yes is is a 325 poly 2bbl. but with Powerflite 2 speed. Manual steering and brakes originally, I swapped in power steering from a parts car in 1992; everything from the horn ring to the original v-belt for the pump. This addition made it drive like a different car! Sooooo much nicer to drive.

Those are nice personal touches, too. I'd suggest finding another 59-type rearview mirror, and adding it, to balance out the car's appearance. You can attach a large round convex mirror, from a parts house, to the face of the driver's side mirror, using 3M 'weatherstrip' glue, and you will instantly get a PERFECT view to the side and to the rear of your car. Amazing. Before gluing it, try double-surface taping it to the mirror glass, if you like; you WILL be gluing it to the mirror. I grew up in Toledo (but, nobody's perfect...). Somebody's been "Spikin' your breakfast cerial with "Mellow out Powder" (LOL) I never thought I would see the day when such a post (along with the color miscue) would come out of the "California Semi Sierras" LOL Nice going, Neil---next thing we know, we'll catch ya smiling?--but who am I to talk, most of you have seen my "Sour Puss" on UTube!! Veteran Posts: 139 | Thanks Neil, I actually have added a right side mirror to the car since this picture was taken. The mirror on the left is original to the car. It is the taller-type mirror; some 58's I've seen have shorter ones OEM. I'll be posting a pic of the data plate soon, but my car is actually fairly early production, built 1st week of November 1957, VIN LD218909.

Veteran Posts: 139 | Hello all, longtime lurker here, I haven't posted for years. I own the 58 Coronet in the pic above. Will post the VIN tag and Chrysler documentation shortly....I have found out in the four years since the original posting, some interesting information about my car. It was originally delivered from the factory in the basic two-tone configuration, with a gold roof and the rest of the car Sunshine. The dealer transformed it into the optional two tone of the trunk and fins gold, upon delivery of the car. I remember my Dad (now deceased) telling me the car was two-toned at the dealer. Also delivered with blackwall tires and no radio. It has a factory radio and antenna in it now, and I'm assuming this was installed at the dealer at the time of delivery.

Veteran Posts: 195 Location: Dorset, England | Hey Mark, Great to see another 58 Club Sedan active. I was thinking I was the only one. What a lovely car, can you post any more pics, interior shots maybe. Mine also has 2bbl 325 & powerflite with custom guts. You must have photos of the car going back 55yrs! It would be great if you could share them here. Regards, John H

Expert Posts: 2309 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | Very nice car, but it's a shame you haven't posted any more pictures of it since your original post. I'm assuming too that the one picture you did post isn't really recent as the car in the background looks like a mid-1970s GM Chevy or Olds? Regardless, it is nice to hear of a FL car still in the hands of the original owner's family.

Veteran Posts: 139 | 58 DeSoto, you are correct, that photo was taken in 1986 upon the Dodge's maiden voyage with it's rebuilt engine. My Dodge looks the same today except for different tires, and I have added about 12,000 miles to the odometer since then. Currently registers 86,000 miles. I recently received my packet from Chrysler and it revealed a few facts unknown to me, even though I've grown up with this car. (born in 1960, it's 2 years older than me): It was built in the basic two-tone scheme of gold roof and sunshine on the rest of the body; built with no radio; and equipped with blackwall tires. I'm looking forward to posting pictures soon, as I will need my son's help to post. Mark

Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Yeah, Roger; that's the car. All-blue (2-tone was an option, too) Coronet 2-dr sedan, with NO options; manual trannie and no heater/defroster. Very rough but complete condition.

I assume that Dodge, being one rung up the ladder from Plymouth would price a little higher ????
