Expert Posts: 1730 Location: Michigan | Update: I was never satisfied with the braking power after the conversion. Don't get me wrong. The car stops good, but not great. I could not hold the car still while I stepped on the gas. This didn't sit well with me. I tried a couple of things but suffice to say I found that the real issue was a lack of Vacuum to power the boost properly. You must have 18in plus of vacuum to properly power a booster. Penny was making only 14" due to the slightly modified cam I put in. I bought this. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-760152. Installed it and I now can do burnouts without the car moving at all. Peddle has proper travel and feel. If your not happy with your braking power on one of these conversions, be sure to check your vacuum to the booster at idle.

Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | I've bought a used stock brake assist vacuum pump out of some newer Volvo car for a couple of bucks. Came with a vacuum sensing switch and some hoses too.

Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | Something like that indeed. Mine contained some bracketery from the original car so it looked bulkier. Will see if I can take a pic of it soon. In the end it doesn't matter what kind of pump you get. It just needs to draw a vacuum in the systeem. I personally am mentally 'not able' to fork out $100-200 or more for a stupid simple pump, no matter how much it sucks...!

Expert Posts: 1730 Location: Michigan | Was reading another thread about brake conversions and went back to this one to make sure I didn't give you guys the wrong impression. My AAJ conversion works like advertised. The issues I had were due to my vehicle and the fact that it is not quite stock anymore. Between my changes and the changes of others over the years I had to make a few changes to get everything to work. The fact that I needed a vacuum pump was due to my engine only producing 14lbs of vacuum at idle. A booster needs 18-20lbs to work properly. Hence I needed to compensate with a add on vacuum pump. This had nothing to do with AAJ brakes and the product / instructions he provides. Just wanted to clear the air on that. In case my previous posts gave the wrong impression.
