I have a problem which I mentioned previously which I thought was the gearbox holding onto gears at stop lights and junctions and dropping engine revs. I am not so sure after further checking when in neutral on the parking brake the car runs normally if I press on the foot brake the revs drop significantly almost stalling the car I think this is the problem at stop lights etc with the car in gear when the brake is applied the revs drop giving the impression it’s the gearbox or is it I am at a loss with this issue and do not want to remove the gearbox if it is not the problem ,I have replaced all the larger diameter pipes to the brake booster and reservoir tank ,I have not replaced the small 1/8 th or similar pipe that appears to go through the bulkhead
The brakes still seem to be working as normal

any help appreciated

Thanks Phil

Further to the above post I have disconnected and blanked the brake booster and the car is still vibrating and all most stalling when stationary in gear with the brake pedal pressed so have ruled out air leaks from the brake system
The car appears to be trying to creep forwards when in gear even when tick over is low and applying the brake is almost stalling the engine with a low or medium tick over set and causing the car to vibrate is there any adjustment on the 1961 torqueflite 3 speed gearbox to alter the gear engagement at tick over so the car is not trying to creep
Out of drive the car is not vibrating
When beginning reversing particularly the drive seems more aggressive and not setting of smoothly like it was
In drive at reasonable speed the car drives and shifts as it should
Prior to this fault the gearbox was very smooth at all times
Wizard has suggested the sprag could be at fault thanks for that info
The transmission oil has been changed and the gauze filter cleaned the pan and filter were very dirty when this was done
Is my only way forward gearbox removal and overhaul
Any input help appreciated Phil

Stationary in gear, if you brake hard with your left foot and increase the engine speed with the throttle, does it smooth out with increased engine speed? If so, the problem is more likely in the engine tune than the transmission. The torque converter is the only transmission-related component that relates to your problem.

Phil: Any chance that your shift cable is not properly adjusted?

Update on above problem managed to get home to test
I have tested as Chizler57 suggested increased the revs in gear with foot on the brake and indeed the vibration goes away completely so engine tune / carburettor is suspected may be blocked pilot jets I am trying to get a carb kit from old Mopar parts the carb tag says 2923S is there a replacement carb available or should a kit do the trick
The car was running very well prior to the current problem
I am also thinking of changing to an electric fuel pump with a regulator in line would that be the way to go
Thanks Phil
