That's not a data plate. It's a body tag. No real way to decode it.

I believe the 1401 refers to the model & body type, but I don't know how to decode the '57 Plymouths. E means it came from the Evansville, Illinois plant. Detroit cars had no letter between the numbers and Los Angeles cars didn't use this tag at all. The 01 refers to a 4dr sedan in '56. What body type and model is your car? Your car is the 12335th car built at the Evansville plant of that body type for the '57 model year.

.
The last digit is (what we have known for Evansville plant):
4 = 2 Door Hardtop
9 = Convertible

So, 1 is a 4 Door Sedan?
I thought the «0» is a 4 Door Sedan and «1» for 2 Door Sedan…
Nathan, are you sure?

I was talking about 1956. I have no idea what the codes are for '57. I showed you this before. This is the body tag from a '56 Belvedere 4dr sedan, built in Detroit.

I collected this from Facebook members. This is a '56 Belvedere 2dr sedan. So for Detroit built cars:
-01 4dr sedan
-02 2dr sedan

It's a pleasure to look at this nice and clean body tag - compared to the upper ones and many others. As well how it is fixed. My compliments.

But some like it dirty!  - SERGE -   :laugh:

It is a 4 door sedan. I can't find a data plate anywhere. Has a lot of surface rust on it and I am trying to figure out the exterior color(s). Soon as it warms up, I will pull it out, snap some pictures and make a separate post about the find

Your car would only have a dataplate if it was built in Newark, DE, or Los Angeles.
