"56 DODGE CORONET D 500-1 354 CI HEMI 4 SPEED THIS MODEL WAS BUILT FROM THE FACTORY FOR NASCAR COMPETITION THIS IS ONE OF LESS THAN 100 THAT HAD THE LARGER 354 CI ENGINE RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT IT WAS PART OF AN ESTATE AND HAS HAD THE SAME OWNER FOR 20 YEARS THERE ARE A FEW MINOR BLEMS AS SHOWN IN THE PIC'S.FULL COVER INCLUDED DELIVERY AVAILABLE"

Complete and utter BullSHIP.

Not even Carl Kiekhaefer got a 56 Dodge with a 354 Chrysler engine. Yes there were Dodge D500s with a 354 but that only happened in 1957 and they were called the D501s.

And they didn't have "Chrysler Fire Power" on the valve covers with Edelbrock carbs, stupid air cleaner, aternator, 426 plug boots, 4 speed, etc.... If you're gonna lie about it, at least try to make it resemble some form of reality.
But that makes me wonder.....did the real Kiekhaefer Dodge & Chrysler 300 cars get a tachometer? Or was the Fury the only car that had them?

For 1956 only the Fury's had tachometers, the tachs don't make much sense on Powerflite automatic cars. You don't really have too many options for shifting into a better torque/power curve... Now on the later 3 speed cars like the 300C-D-E and the 4speed 300F, that's where a tach would have some value.

'56 Furys also came with 3 speed manuals. I have what's left of one.
I find it odd that they would include a tach on the Fury, but not on anything else. Also wondering if Kiekhaefer added one to his cars. I know they didn't come from the factory with one.

I'm 99.995% sure that if Kiekhaefer's 56 D500s and 300Bs had tachs, they were NOT factory.

So there is a 0.005% chance that I am wrong.

That's appears to be a 1955 Chrysler Dash because I'm seeing the block off plate for the dash mounted shift-lever. Are we sure that pic is of a 300B and not a C300?

Never say never. Street vs race. Kiekhaefer could get what he wanted back in those days (55-56) so who knows.

I also agree !

Also, I have downloaded another "better" photo of a 1956 red Chrysler 300B with a original factory manual transmission (quite scarce), which was sold on ebay and I have attached a previous Forward Look thread that discusses this particular car.

I would bet that a '55 dash was used because it would be much easier and cheaper to make a blank cover for a '55 dash than it
would be to modify the push button dash on a '56.

I think you're right,

The 1956 Chrysler stick shift cars used 1955 dash panels and even earlier steering columns, steering wheels and horn rings.

The Dodge in the listing is a complete fabrication.

And here I thought you guys knew your Forward Look cars and 50's
history !

This is the famous Route 66 Police Cruiser, driven by Marilyn Monroe.
Hand built by Carl Kiekhafer and Elvis in Exner's home garage. Duh !

ONE 1955 Chrysler C300 was factory built with manual transmission. ONE.

Thirty-one 1956 Chrysler 300Bs were factory built with manual trans.

That's cool Wayne. Do you have any pictures of this C300 and know the history of it?

The steering wheel in the 300B is from 1954, but the wheel in the DeSoto has got to be wrong. Why wouldn't they use the '54 version as well? At least I can't figure out what that wheel is from.

The manual transmission was not available for the 1955 Chrysler 300 car models. But, I believe that the one 1955 Chrysler with a factory manual transmission that you had mentioned, was a "special order" by Carl Kiekhafer.

Yes, the one C-300 with manual trans was, of course, a special order for Kiekhaefer. A request fulfilled for driver Tim Flock through K's liason, Burt Bouwkamp, Chrysler engineer.

It probably seems to be correct.
Look at this picture below, it's another manual steering car, the steering wheel looks the same.

3N552689: AAA stock car #99 driven by Tony Bettenhausen. The only C-300 built at Jefferson Assembly with a factory-installed, 3-speed manual transmission. As per a Bettenhausen & Schuldt Motor Sales letter dated 7/25/55, documentation was supplied with the car: “Enclosed is Factory Invoice on the 300 as requested by the AAA.” Norm Nelson raced the car as #299 in a NASCAR GN race at LeHi, Arkansas (10/9/55). It was the first time a stick shift 300 was permitted to race in a NASCAR-sanctioned event. #2689 fulfilled the homologation requirement so that all C-300s could use a manual gear box in the NASCAR GN division. In a KAM memo dated 12/2/55, it was noted that the car was now being raced as #300 by Tim Flock. #2689 was originally sold by Rollie Barrett, Inc. to Bettenhausen & Schuldt Motor Sales as a new car driveaway. The term 'special order' is found nowhere on the factory invoice.
