New User Posts: 4 Location: central,pa | Found a 318 with 2x4's in an old coupe. The owner says it is Fury engine, I checked it out carbs wcfb's ,air cleaners, everything is complete on the intake. It doesn't have dual point distributor, has 2 bolt valve covers and some red or orange paint peeking thru the dirt.It has been sitting for 22 years.Weren't the original commando engines painted silver or gold ? The engine on the front deck under the drivers side head has B318 3 17. I have looked all over has how to identify what car these engines were installed in and can't find anything. What was uneak to the Commando engine ? What were 2 and 3 valvecover bolts used on? Thank You in advance for your Help Jeff

Elite Veteran Posts: 1115 Location: CA | As 60 Dart has said the 2 bolt valve covers indicate a 59-newer motor. The dual quad set-up was on the standard Fury 318 poly motors in 57-58, the "commando" 350 engines were entirely different and 58 only. '57 would have wcfb's and the 58 would have afb's. This set-up was also available from the dealer catalogs to be put on any A-series poly motor beginning in 1956.

New User Posts: 4 Location: central,pa | Thank You both 60 dart and Finsinthemirror, I would be interested in more information on how to identify the years of the poly engines. was a dual point distributor part of the 2x4 package? Thank You both Jeff

This relatively small-cube engine is of an interesting design that attempted to give hemi levels of performance with less weight and a far simpler head design. Fitted with solid lifters, a high-lift cam, high compression, a dual-point distributor and dual quads. https://bringatrailer.com/2018/12/05/rare-factory-hot-rod-unrestored...

New User Posts: 4 Location: central,pa | Thank you to all that have answered. I know now the engine is a 66 model year by the B 318 stamped on the left front deck, back to the engine, intake carbs, and air cleaners. In the 57-58 Fury engines were there special parts that set the difference from the other 318 engines used in those years?? I know these engines were optional in other models also. Please correct me, I have heard the 57 engine used wcfb carbs with air cleaners that set off to the side, or batwing air cleaners. Also in 58 did they use AFB carbs and inline air cleaners. I know the 350 was optional also in 58.Is there any web sites that have factory information? It would be nice if there was a tech section that information could be accessed, just asking. Thank You all again Jeff Edited by ply64post 2020-03-07 10:59 AM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 409 Location: Tampa, Florida | My recollection is that the "V800" engine was standard on the 1957 Fury and optional on any model Plymouth in 1957. In 1958, the "V800" was standard on the Fury and not on any other Plymouth. The Golden Commando 350 was optional on all 1958 Plymouth models. The V800 was a poly 318 with 2 x 4 WCFB carbs.
