Expert Posts: 1476 Location: Pacific Northwest | Two options, AFAIK. One, find yourself a dual point distributor and swap out the guts with a Pertronix ignition module. Second, get yourself an all in one electronic distributor. I don't have the number in front of me right now, but I'll get back to you. I just pulled one out of my 303 and it's sitting on the shelf.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9663 Location: So. Cal | The 277 engine uses the same distributor as the later 318 and 340 motors. They are a direct bolt-in. Edited by Powerflite 2019-06-05 6:29 PM

Veteran Posts: 242 Location: Michigan | Thank you Powewflite and ABoch distributor came to day the one you said. Fit in with just a little filing on the part that goes into the oil pump gear. My question is do I have to use the coil resistor with this distributor

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9663 Location: So. Cal | It says HEI. HEI systems don't need the ballast. But you would need one if you use an old style coil with less than 1.5 ohm primary resistance. Your stock coil would need the ballast as they are typically .5 ohms.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9663 Location: So. Cal | It's up to you. It will work with the old style coil if you want to use it, but the HEI will give you more spark power. Edited by Powerflite 2019-06-13 4:41 PM

Elite Veteran Posts: 667 Location: Frederick, MD | You can also use the late 80s to mid-90s Ford coil (Standard FD478) which is essentially the same as the HEI coil but with a different plug (Standard HP4370).
