Looking for advice on next step. My 1959 Chrysler 4 dr HT's roof moulding clips are fairly toast. Some are likely salvageable, but others are unusable. I have been unable to find any 6006316, but did find that Deception pass had 6006402 (supposed to be for the sedan, but IDK why the clips have a different part# between the bodies). Dennis Carpenter sells a very similar style of clips used for 50s and early 60s Ford trims, but none of the dimensions are listed.

90% of the holes are able to be accessed with the roof rail, roof rail weatherstrip, and headliner removed. The other 10% are towards the front and are at a very cramped space and almost no visibility. I figure my options are:

1. Try to use as much clips I can/somehow find a compatible clip and use 3M panel adhesive to secure them and to seal the hole. (Ideal, but finding additional clips is challenging.)
2. Use the Auveco generic thread and nut clips with sealant. (This would prevent trim removal unless the headliner is uninstalled and is the least appealing)

I am a hobbyist and my current plan is to work on one section due to time constraints. My preference is to do a final paint without the trim on the roof, but I believe I can still do it masking it off carefully.

You might look at using one of the 3M trim adhesives to attach the parts. If you did that you could plug the holes before painting and install the trim after the paint cures.

Strongly suggest that you deal with the roof situation (sanding, primer, paint) before you add the trim. Masking around the trim will never be as good as having the roof painted first.

My fairly successful attempt at rattle-can roof painting:

Originally those roof trim clips were pushed into the receiver holes in the roof from the top, i.e. no need to remove the headliner.

Based on a previous thread that I was involved in:

there was a link (provided by Marc S.) to

Lots of Ford options that might work plus 2 pages of Mopar clips (around page 20-21 of the pdf)

Good luck

The trick is getting them to seal well. The benefit of the screw-on types is that with the extra clamping force on the sealant, they are more likely to seal well. But you won't be able to remove them as easily if some of them don't. My best advice is to mount them with the style you decide on and test it out in the rain numerous times before you install the headliner.

If I can't find a substitute, Sermey's plan might work fine for me if I can get the steel to bend right. I would have a better seal and still be able to remove the trim. I could try to clean my old clips up and put a machine bolt in them, but only if I could get them clean. Then I wouldn't have to make my own spring steel and still be able to remove. The clips that were the worst were at the insert with the sealant and the edges holding the trim still stable enough to hold.

I emailed RJL about their Ford clips. Problem is that there are so many variants with no size indication.
