wow Mecum is giving away cars practically.

I know they have the reputation of the "classic car flipper" car lot fillers but wow these poor people selling No reserve cars are getting crushed...

https://www.mecum.com/lots/KD1218-336132/1958-chrysler-imperial-convertible/

They are "pulling" star cars quietly it seems, I saw two hard top 300C's for sale that were stars but are now removed...  The collection guy is yanking no reserve cars.

Even the auctioneer is reeling..

But a 58 Imperial convert is going up in a few hours.  There is a reserve.  no other forward looks.

A 59 Plymouth convertible unrestored went for 37k  https://www.mecum.com/lots/KD1218-335620/1959-plymouth-sport-fury-convertible/

It will be interesting to see how much that '58 Imperial sells for if it makes it all the way through a no reserve auction.
It's currently at a dealer in KC http://www.kcclassicauto.com/1958_Chrysler_Imperial_Convertible_RAR...
They have it on sale for $89K, down from the $99K they were asking a couple months ago

I'm a bit surprised that a single 4 bbl 392 was rated at 345 hp. I thought that was dual quad territory

got up to 80k, no sale, no one even in the seats... I think 14 auctions a year is a bit much. I understand they want to make money but jeeze, there is constantly a mecum auction running

The amount of FWL cars though is nill though. I mean pretty much nothing... I wonder what happened to the no reserve 300C's many cars mysteriously dropped out. I guess no reserve isn't really no reserve

The no reserve 300's are for the January auction, not this one. They didn't drop out. I'd like to see that 58 in person, depending on condition, that could be a decent buy.

Compression was increased across all standard (non-HP) 392 Hemi engines from 9.25:1 in 1957, to 10:1 for 1958. This resulted in 5 extra advertised hp on the 300, and 20 for the New Yorker / Imperial.

(there may very well have also been camshaft, exhaust, or other changes for the '58 engines, but I don't have any information with that level of detail)

I think all these convertibles are going down drastically, like the wooden Town and country did in the 90's. Same is going on for the 300 community. These cars are to hard to restore and they are no much appreciated in the antique car community, more ignored I would say. Rare doesn't necessary mean valuable.
Everyone is going for Camaros and Mustangs, even worst, they are going for the new ones out of the dealer...

I just looked at the Don's link, and gosh they are still several things to do to this car, including bad restoration re-do.. Sorry but is not even close to 90k.

actually they said your typical muscle car is going down. heck they repop the whole car.

these converts will only go up they are simply that rare. mecum has a bunch of classic car dealer flippers, they are looking for steals.

put a 69 Camaro ragtop for sale, and wait. Put a 58 Imperial for sale and wait....wait...wait...

Best thing that a car can have is plenty of repop, what good do to a restoration enthusiast deal with Mitchell motor parts and S.M.S? How would you like to call Legendary auto interiors for an exact match upholstery already stitched an ready to go? any chrome and trim?

If you like rare cars, buy one of those limousines, and good luck. Not even with the time machine you could do the restoration.
