Subject: Reconditioning Rubber Window Seals?

Location: WA/USA		I have decent used seals for my front and rear glass (57 Coronet), but they are a little stiff. I see all sorts of stuff on the web for softening and reconditioning old rubber - it's a lot of info to pare down to something that works. I don't want this to be an experiment!

Has anyone here used a product or process that they would recommend? The seals are loose, so I can soak or bathe them if that is best. I'd like to get started on them so that they are prepared for future glass installation. Thanks.

Location: So. Cal		The material that is needed to rejuvenate rubber is wax. I've included an article on it for you. But that wax needs to penetrate deep into the rubber. Microcrystalline wax & heat is probably the best method to use. Most people (including myself) use Gojo hand cleaner. It has paraffin wax in it, and this does penetrate into the rubber. Unfortunately, it also has other stuff in it that may or may not be good for the rubber. But experience seems to show that gojo works well enough most of the time. Some people use glycerin, PTFE (teflon) or silicone oils. These may help as well, but I don't have direct experience with any of them.

I have had some minor positive luck with 303 brand rubber seal protectant. (I used it on the plug that seals the trunk from the gas tank level sender on my 56 Dodge. Made the seal much more pliable)

Location: Branson, MO		Gojo has worked for me. But I have not had long term experience with it - I would just reapply if I thought it was required which wasn't very often.

Anyone used winter green oil/alcohol mix or simple green?
