This isn't what you want but it is what I could find. Others who know more will probably be around.

I see from the photo that the car is a 55 Coronet 2dr hardtop. So presumably 216 = 2dr hard top. The VIN indicated that it is a Detroit built V8 car (34,740,001 was the start for 1955 Detroit Dodges) and probably well into the build year (which ended with 34,970,679). I guess the Dec 17 and 18, 1955 dates kind of say that.

The D55-1 engine number implies that the V8 is most likely a 270 poly head. Probably 2 bbl. The relatively high engine number D55-1 27467 points to well into the build year too.

Just 16 for the paint isn't that helpful. I would have thought three numbers not 2. 16 was the start of the code for a number of greens.

Thanks for the info, every little bit helps! Yes, the paint is odd. I was expecting to see 66 or 566 for emerald/chiffon green two tone. I wonder if the 16 indicates the reverse of the two tone, chiffon/emerald instead of the standard emerald/chiffon? Original motor was a 270, now has a 57 New Yorker 392 hemi.

Sorry, I don't know why the image links didn't work and display the images right away. I've removed the
Definitely a chiffon/emerald car. I was hoping to find a Dupont paint card that listed the colour combo codes like I have seen for the 56 Dodges but no luck.

392 Hemi. That ought to be nice.

For future reference, since all 55 Dodge V8s were 270s, hemi or not, can you confirm that the original D55-1 engine was a 2 bbl poly head?

Nice car by the way. We could see more photos when you get the time.

I've attached a listing of the 55-57 Dodge VINs to show that a non-V8 55 Dodge VIN would have started with 32,nnn,nnn

Thanks! I don't have any info on the original 270 motor, as far as I can tell from the paperwork it was replaced 10-15 years ago with the 392. I'll get some more picks posted up soon.

16 Paint Code For 1955
Ditzler - Skyline Gray
Ditzler paint Code - 31144

Dupont - Skyline Gray
Code to do it in Duco Lacquer - 246-58535
Code to do it in Dulux Enamel - 93-58535

16 WAS Sea Island Green Poly in 1954 For Ditzler
16 WAS Mint Green for Dupont in 1956

But for 1955 for Both - It's skyline Gray - Long story short it should be gray (if you want original) not green.

In 1954 it was called west point gray

here is what a car with it on looks like

The 1955 Dodge Grey was called Cashmere grey:

Thanks for the info! Wouldn't the 16 translate to a 516 paint code? I thought Dodge dropped the first digit on the build cards and if this was a latter 55 the firewall tag would have the 516. I did some checking and there is a spot under the hood, which is now chiffon green, shows the original color and it is definitely emerald green. I think the whole car was a single color of emerald green.

Interesting. I would guess that you are on to something with the dropping of "5" from 516 Emerald Green (for 1955)

I have not been able to find a listing for 1955 Dodges like the one below for 1956 Dodges. For example a three tone, white, dark blue, light blue like my car which is listed as 561-2 become 261 on the cowl tag and IBM card. Closest I have come is shown below, under the example 1956 listing. Looks like in 1955, 516 might be all Emerald but 566 was Emerald upper and Chiffon lower. Which is the exact opposite of what you have. In fact, I don't see a combo that puts Chiffon on top, only on the bottom.

But I can only find a large version of the first page and I can't read what is on that tiny second page
