Still prepping my D-500 for the next starting trial. Down to the last things. Was going to install a new thermostat and bendy rad hose late this afternoon and when I took the old hose off I discovered that the thermostat housing/water connection elbow (PN 853969 as far as I can tell) is in sad shape. I have attempted a "repair" (bodge) using Bondo brand "Plastic Metal" but no doubt it will only be a temporary fix (if at all - I think there is some good meat to put the clamp onto but still it is sh*t). I was thinking that there might be a substitute out there somewhere, e.g. a chrome thing usually used on Chevys or whatever. I didn't find anything searching for 853969 on ebay for example.

I did find this though:

UPDATE:

My 56 D500 315 thermostat housing wasn't in the best shape when I had it off last year to install a new 180 deg thermostat. I patched it with plastic metal but it leaks a bit from time to time so I wanted to get a NOS housing.

I have searched using 853 969 as the PN but came up dry. (see diagram and part number list below)

I bought a supposedly "good" 315 56 Dodge thermostat housing from an unnamed forum member a while back. However, his idea of "good" and mine differed. Mine didn't include the discharge end being corroded to nothing in places. I was okay with it in terms of what it cost me so I didn't make a fuss or return it. Instead I decided to use the flange and get a "new" elbow/thermostat housing made using muffler pipe material that would be bent, swaged and welded to the flange. However, since I couldn't do it myself, I eventually left it with my local (3 blocks away) muffler shop on Monday and picked it up today. $20 cash. Not perfect but probably serviceable enough. The 1.75" outlet matches the Gates upper rad hose=(s) that I bought a while back.

The housing turned out a bit shorter than I would have preferred and there is no rolled bead to help hold the hose on - but it will probably work. I envy the 55-57 Chevy guys who can buy these new and chromed, etc. all day, every day. I wish that was possible here. Even what Hot Hemi Heads has doesn't do it for me:

This is the diagram I found that lead me to the OE 853 969 part number via Section 9-05-5

Below is the OE PN listing and then photos of what I picked up today.
