I want to clean-up and paint the surface rust on the inside edge of the trunk of my 56 Dodge Custom Royal before I install the new rubber gasket that I bought off eBay in the groove in the body (which I have cleaned up and spot filled ready for paint). I have tried a few "grey" paints on the trunk lid (bottom side) but they don't really work (match). If I had a code, I could get some made up but I can't find/don't know the code. Or what is available off the shelf that works (??)

Any leads/suggestions will be appreciated.

That grey paint varied between plants, time, etc., it's been reported that left over paint would be added to it as well to save some cost instead of throwing it out.

As the Brits would say "Bl**dy Hell"

I could get the paint colour-matched if only I could figure out a way to get the trunk lid into one of those scanners the paint guys have.

Thanks for the reply.

Here iN Edmonton, Sconut (Gord) had the paint scanned and mixed at a local body shop supplier, and they call it "Gord's Grey". So, anyone can order it now.

Ended up deciding that TremClad (Canadian Rustoleum) (Gloss Dark Grey) was close enough. I'm about half done and my neighbour sees it and suggests that I should use a flat paint, not gloss.

Opinions? The inside of the trunk lid is gloss but the trunk floor, etc. I'm not sure.

Semi-gloss.

Good(ish) answer. RIght in the middle.

Problem: Tremclad Rust doesn't come in either Flat or Semi-gloss grey. At least that is what I found looking yesterday.

Didn't there used to be "flattening" agents you could add to gloss paint to achieve a semi-gloss or even flat finish?

I could be mis-remembering, or maybe newer paint chemistry doesn't allow that kind of additive anymore.

There's this . . .

And . .
