Just started loosing P.S. fluid. Quick look and it's not leaking at the pump, hoses or hydroboost so all that's left is the box.
I've replaced the seal on old Chevys and all it amounted to was removing the nut and arm, replacing the nut and leaving it a little loose.
Start the car, with a pan under it and turn the wheel left & right and the seal blew out. Remove the nut and the washer and seal fell out.
Before I get under there, I like to have an idea of who to proceed. It that how it's done on this era MOPARs and what is the correct seal for a 1960 Plymouth?

I believe that the bigger shaft seal is PN 1730 985. This crosses to several modern equivalents at RockAuto:

The proceedure works on most of the power steering gears. Naturally, the engine should be running.

Once I had a similar oil leaking. I replaced the sealing ring by one available in my country - still leaking. Then I replaced it again by an original one from US – with success.

I think you need a replacement kit like this, about same what Dave (56D500boy) showed.  Pictures from Internet.  - SERGE -

Sadly, the seals of today is nowhere near the quality of the past. Old seals could last for 50+ years, some new lasts a couple of years.

Check the outgoing shaft for eventual groove from the seal. There is double lip seals avalible as well...

I think todays seals are made of the same garbage that wiper blades are made from.
They used to be softer and now they are hard and don't seal well and the wipers are hard and squeak.
Unfortunately going with NOS rubber may not be much better as it often hardens with age.
Thanks for the info and
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!

I changed all seals in my servo pump and wanted ti change the needle bearings as well. Good thing - measured all the lash before changing the bearings. Monted new bearings, checked the lash. Conclusion, the bearings from 1960, 62 years old had lesser lash than the new ones. All work done with home made special tools, absolute not even a risk for damages.

Conclusion, new seals are not doing a great job.

Final conclusion, quality cannot be bought anymore, even if you pay for it.

I bought the supposed best quality but still wasted.

I second abouth wiper blades. Running with NOS Trico on my Saratoga, still perfect after all those years in storeage.....
