Location: Winston Salem, N.C. | I have NOS visors and the old visor mounting rods from my car. When I insert the rod into the visors, the visors flip flop. Seems there must be a plastic or metal tab or spacer or something I need, to make the visors stay in the up position when mounted. Thanks for any help.

| I checked the visors on my 56 Plymouth out and see no evidence of any spacers on either end. It does feel like there may be something inside that is tighter than the ends. Obviously I can't see what it might be. I have this problem on a 69 Firebird. Those cars do use a plastic sleeve on the end but the hole in my visor must be too big. I've tried making tape to take some of the slop out but it didn't work well. I did find that if I turn the visor to the window it will stay up. Not an ideal solution but it works for now. Maybe it will work for you. Another thought would be to create your own spacer from tubing or perhaps by putting a piece of shrink tube on the bracket. |

Location: Ponder, TX | I can't speak with authority on your problem, but I can tell you what I found in another year NOS Mopar sun visor with an old shaft.
Grip on the shaft came from a formed metal surround that the shaft fits inside. To get it tight, it took no more than removing the shaft and giving the surround a couple of light taps with a hammer, then reinstalling the shaft and when it needed to be tighter I just repeated the process. Both visors have been tight for years.
Your situation may be entirely different.

I can confirm that the sun visors on my 1956 Dodge are much like you describe and shown below (not Mopar but close enough). There is a metal furrel that you crimp to create non-flip/flopping tension.

Location: So. Cal | I just bought some sunvisors for my '58 Dodge. They said that they were made for the '57 Dodge Royal so they should work. They didn't. They were made to fit a Chevy. Seems like they figure everything is built like a Chevy, but the Dodge arm is quite a bit different and has a bigger diameter. I had to get my money back. I recommend that you take your originals to a local upholstery shop and get them re-covered. |
