A few weeks ago, my best friend and I went "back-yarding", which is how I refer to finding hidden or neglected private collections or parts cars (always within the law, mind you, and always with landowner consent). While looking at an '82 Imperial parts car owned by another friend, I briefly looked at a '61 Plymouth Surburban wagon sitting nearby. A week later, the car was listed in a local Facebook group for sale, and the demolition derby guys were taking notes and asking questions. I just couldn't let that happen. It was simply too cool, and though it's rough it's actually pretty solid for a MN/MI car. I made an offer to my friend to acquire both it and the '82 Imperial parts car, $400 cash money right now, and he accepted. I hadn't inspected it closely enough to even know if it was an automatic or manual transmission (it was a column-shift 3-speed).

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I already have two other project cars, an '82 Imperial and a '74 Challenger, and I'm really not a "forward look" guy as far as knowledge or experience. I really dig it, though. 15 years ago this thing would've been parted so fast it would make your head spin, but now I'd really like to see it kept in one piece. Maybe that's a bad idea?

I don't think it's a bad idea but you have to find time for it or a proper home. If it's a car with a few options it's valuable. Tell us more about it.

I really haven't had much time to go over what it's got (or had). About all I know is that it appears to be a base model, 6-passenger, and was originally a manual transmission. The engine was gone so no clue there, but I expect it was a six. The original rear axle is history. My best guess is that it's a later C-body 8.75" since the track appears to be "about right" and it's got the 1-piece axles and more-modern drums. As far as value goes, I don't think there's much other than the unique styling and the age of the car... it was no Sonoramic Commando with Highway Hi-Fi. I think the best course of action, were I to keep it, would be to "upgrade" it to more-modern front suspension, drop in a B-engine and an automatic, and just have one of the coolest cruisers around... keeping everything Mopar, of course. I really wish it was a typewriter shift, just for that reason. I may have to convert it, since all the 3-speed bits are gone, including the pedals and column parts.

I'm not lacking in mechanical abilities or fun driveline bits for this car, but my fear is that replacing the damaged and missing trim and various doodads is going to be difficult and make putting a Rallye dash in my Challenger seem inexpensive.

No engine, no trans, no pedals, cost basically nothing

Looks like a blank canvas to me

Some of the jewlery bits are stupidly expensive, but the biggest problem is some
parts just dont show up, really hard to get

Not sure how much it cost you to put the ralle dash in, but the reproduction parts support for the
F/L cars is no where near as well supported as what it is for the C body cars

I cant remember the exact figure, but someone recently got a 61 aero steering wheel recast at
$1500 or there abouts, good headlight rings (if you can find them) about $100 each, rust
sections (again, if you can find them, though not to bad) $60 and up, ect ect

Love wagons

I will watch with interest

Repro parts for C bodies are also near nil... the only parts available are the few that are also common to B bodies. I've had 8 C-bodies, so ask me how I know.
