WOW! I can't understand how someone puts this kind of value on a tin model!

I know some of those model collectors, for them it is not even the car itself is the model what it worth, they are complete nuts.. For them is like those who collect a poster of Marilyn Monroe, they would not change it for a time machine ticket to a date with the real person.

Rareness and condition, with the ability to pay for the item in question.

And, of course, there's the box to it, too.

Don't think that its lucky buyer got it with the intention of 'turning' it for a quick profit.

Any questions?

Unlike many toys from the period, this particular example showed few signs of wear. Its black paint still gleamed, and the oversize golden Imperial badges were still affixed to the front fenders. Easily broken pieces, such as the side mirrors and the taillamp lenses, were intact and showed no signs of repair. Described by Bonhams as “a good example of one of the most sought-after Japanese toys of mid-century,” its five-figure selling price reflected both its condition and its rarity on the market, and turned out to be the auction’s exception, not its norm. - See more at: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2014/01/29/scale-model-imperial-...

Believe it or not The Big Book Of Tin Toy Cars values a 1962 Asahi Imperial with a scarcity of ten in mint C-10 condition at a value of $25,000.00. Looks like the buyer did well. Intersting that some lots garnered prices much higher then the prices listed in the book and others much lower.

Now, if we want to discuss over-asking-priced.....

Great Scott! $250K for a Dodge Dart convertible? Really!? I thought maybe it was a typo and they accidentally added a 0, but it's in the title and the description. That is crazy. I'd have a stable of primo FL cars for that kind of money. That dude should move to CO where pot is legal now because he has obviously been smoking dope.

If it had a one-of-one turbine install at the factory... maybe.
