Congrats. Looks great. Job well done.

I can't give you much help but I can give you the link to my heater-related post in which we establish that the PN for the heater valve is 1688 946, across the board (mostly) in 55-57 at least, including Desoto. The thread includes info about the Ranco heater valves and the modern equivalent and NAPA rebuild kits and links on how to do it:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=67959&...

This is the one that I bought (and it is still available on eBay):

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Heater-Control-Valve-673452-fits-Volvo-122-P...

Good luck.

Raffaele, I think I have a good heater valve. I'll look this weekend. If I find it, it is an original from a 42k mile New Yorker. Can you verify it's the same part?

Be aware that the Model 705 heater (whatever that was) used a 1819 516 heater valve not the 1688 946.

Did converts use special sunvisors?

Oh you need the big puffy ones, just padded and vinyl them with gold.

It is certainly 100% original, never replaced. It did not leak before, but it's hard to guarantee.

Let me know if you're interested in the entire assembly, I have just about all the parts.

It most likely is a Ranco H16 like the eBay one, so the $10 NAPA heater valve repair kit would work in the event that it did leak:
