Expert Posts: 1267 Location: San Antonio TX | It's very orange. Caddy tail lights. Bumper looks like two thin strips of steel. Spare sits in what looks like a chromed toolbox. https://northmiss.craigslist.org/cto/d/1956-dodge-lancer-roadster/6528570174.html

Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10179 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Was going to try and not say anything about the 2 x 1 bbl carb set up *BUT* when I saw the decals on the valve cover, I couldn't let it slide. (Sorry) What that engine started as was a 315 2 bbl poly which was indeed called "Super Red Ram". ("Red Ram" in 1956 was a 270 cu in 2bbl poly). But the "Super Red Ram" only had 215 hp. When the 4 bbl, dual exhaust option was added, the engine was called "Super-powered Super Red Ram", but the horsepower went to 230 not "240 H.P." as the decals suggest. With 2 x 1 bbl carbs I can't see it making much more than 215 hp, perhaps less (??). Extreme Veteran Posts: 407 Location: Hilltown, PA | The front bumper was probably added sometime after the original build in order to meet the minimum compliance for a state DOT safety inspection. Here in PA the "compliant" aspect would be up to the individual inspector - I'd have to see it in person before I'd say it would pass . . . Ditto on the continental kit - probably wasn't an original feature (although they were very popular when the car was probably done) but may have been added as a way to provide some form of "rear bumper". As far as the manifold/carbs . . . totally an appearance modification. These type of adapters were very popular in the '50's as an inexpensive way to put hot looking multi-carb set-ups on almost any engine out there. From a functional standpoint they were garbage - it doesn't matter how many carbs you install when ALL of the air/fuel is still passing through the original manifold, and in particular the original 2bbl carb mounting flange. They carbureted poorly for the most part, had fuel puddling and mixture issues, and usually reduced the performance of whatever engine they were installed on. I recall seeing a photo somewhere of an engine that some joker had installed several "layers" of adapters on, ending up with 6 or 8 2bbls all channeling down through an O.E. 2bbl intake. As I recall it was done as a joke, but did run . . . Interestingly enough there was also a time when "weld-on" adapters were available. Essentially you had to machine (or cut) the original carb flange off the factory manifold and weld either a 4bbl, 2-4bbl, or 3-2bbl "adapter flange" to the manifold. These disappeared pretty quickly as aftermarket manifolds became less expensive, and certainly worked much better. Gregg
