Subject: valve seals on dodge 326

I am gonna fix the heads on my 326, and noticed that the exhaust valve have no seals. Are there not suppose to be exhaust seals on those engines or have they been burnt away?

I was not there when they went away.

The Valve Seals are the same part number as a 1988 MoPar 360 or 318.

No exhaust seals, not required.

In theory, only the intakes need seals because vacuum in the intake passages tries to pull oil down the valve stems into the combustion chambers but exhaust pressure pushes the oil away so no seals are needed. But, oil on the exhaust valve stems can run down into the engine on shutdown and cause momentary exhaust smoke on startup. I always use seals on both.
