Expert Posts: 1480 Location: Pacific Northwest | Spoke to the seller. Ultra rare part. Seems NASCAR required anything and everything for the race cars to be available to the public. These were produced and Plymouth wasn't able to compete because of the production date deadline so the parts were forgotten. Very low production numbers.

Expert Posts: 1480 Location: Pacific Northwest | http://chrysler300country.com/plymouth_fury_problem_2.htm "Sadly, it was not to be. Shortly after the speed had been sent to NASCAR for verification, Plymouth received notification that it could not compete in regular stock classes at Daytona Speed Week in February. The Fury had not been in production for 90 days. You cannot imagine the black haze that settled over the Plymouth division. Bill France was a name that would live, as Roosevelt put it, in infamy. He hung in effigy in several places at Plymouth dealers, assembly plants, and it was later shown for fact, at the Chrysler Headquarters in Highland Park." This was taken from the article linked above. Charles Fisher is the writer. Edited by ABloch 2015-02-10 10:11 PM

Veteran Posts: 119 | The 1956 Plymouth Fury had three different 2x4 intakes, prototype (aluminum Kiekaefer-designed kludge), NASCAR (aluminum special contracted from Edelbrok), and production (cast iron) Plymouth 1956 (over the counter) 1732479 Cast iron 2x4 Plymouth 1956 1735919 Aluminum 2x4 Plymouth 1956 303 Fury 1733878 Aluminum 2x4 Plymouth 1957 303 Fury 1733878 Aluminum 2x4 Plymouth 1957 318 1822004 Cast iron 2x4 The early 2x4 had tandem WCFB's both with chokes and idle, later used much easier-to-tune progressive WCFBs with one having idle circuits and choke deleted. The earliest 2x4 air cleaner was a special single foam made for Dodge/Plymouth by Purolator, later used separate air cleaners identical to Corvette 2x4 setups. But see, http://www.forwardlook.net/mail-archive/msg43211.html And see, https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/goldenfin/conversations/messages... hestafubs' listing on eBay got zero bids because it was absurdly overpriced given the condition. If 100% restored and complete, maybe $3750. (But all the guys who care enough to shell out that much are now old, broke, too cheap, or dead.) Regular Posts: 62 | The NASCAR-approved intake #1733878 was used on the 1956 Dodge D500-1s. The intake was designed by Kiekhaefer Corporation's Charlie Strang. Units were cast at the Kiekhaefer Corporation foundry, shipped to Dodge, where the intakes were inventoried and cataloged as factory racing parts to satisfy NASCAR, and then Kiekhaefer Corporation had to "purchase" some of its own intakes for use on Carl Kiekhaefer's race cars. Currently unknown is the exact number of aluminum intakes that Kiekhaefer Corporation produced. Charlie Strang is now 94 years old, but still has great recall of events from over 60 years ago. Furthermore, while Carl ran the racing program's day shift, Charlie ran the night shift and supervised the engine dynamometer testing in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. In 1956, the race engines were flown back and forth on the Kiekhaefer Corporation company plane between the dyno lab in Oshkosh and the race team's headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. At one point, a teenage Bobby Allison worked on the 1956 race cars at the Charlotte facility.
