Hey Guys, finally got to the rockers on the dr side. All pieces were made by local fab shop, 18 ga. He could only make the outers in 30" lengths, so butt welded them together and put an extra piece on inside curve for strength at the butt weld. This side went together much nicer than pass. side, but did inside rocker 1st, middle rocker and then outer rocker. I clamped a 1 1/2" piece of square tubing to back side of inner rocker to keep everything lined up. A lot of welding involved. Jerry

Looks good.
I've learned from my '57 Chrysler that good repaired/welded rockers make a great difference in how a car sounds and feels during driving and even when you close a door for instance.

Thanks ! I also checked the door fit several times before I started welding. I found when doing the mid - body mount on pass side, when all done, too much press on it will affect smooth door closure. Jerry

I noticed that my door gap is more 'stable' after repairs. Before, the gap was a little close at the top and opened way up when you jacked up the car. After repairing the inner sill and where the floor connects to the sill (outer sill was ok, which shows that these cares really do rust from the inside-out), the gap remains constant, regardless of whether I jack up one end of the car or in the center of the car...i.e. the car as a whole is much more stiff now. You would think that with the very stout ladder frame these cars come with, that some little bit of sheet metal in the sill would not make a big difference in total stiffness of the combination of body and frame...but it does.

I noticed the same thing, even with just the inner rocker secured. Jerry

I agree, looks like a really nice job. One question, 3 rocker panel layers? Mine has an inner and an outer, the inner being vertical, horizontally bent, vertical again...and the outer being curved. Also, I also used an angle as a guide on the inner so I could clamp it really tight. I ended up welding it in between the rocker and the new floor because it just fit really well.

I thought that middle rocker was a bit odd too. If you take a close look at pics 006 and 007, I have that mid rocker temporarly installed. Its kinda like the door sill goes all the way back to inner wheel well and this piece is a curved vertical part of it and the bottom of it gets sandwiched in between the inner and outer rockers. I'm guessing this must have added some sort of extra strength to this area, as there was one on the other side too. The rear seat area of the floor of this car is flat all the way across. I've noticed pics of other cars that have an additional raised hump going side to side in this floor area. Maybe these differences have something to do with yr and model. Anyway, I'm just putting new metal back in there where it looks like its supposed to be there, for whatever reason. Thanks for the comments, Guys ! Jerry

Interesting. I thought I'd forgotten something. Is this a 2 door hardtop? My car def doesn't have middle rockers, and does have a metal support going from side-to side under where the back seat goes. And it's very true about the stiffness of the body. I didn't realize how willowy my car was until I did the inner rockers (mine were fine on the outside too, go figure), floors and particularly the second body mount area. The doors close really nice, now.

Looks real good. Whats your plan for the rear wheel lips? They look rough in the pictures:(
