Well, not exactly a barn...... but way in the back of a little repair shop.

It's a 61 300G hardtop from Arizona. I saw zero rust or damage on the body, still in original paint, nice chrome, glass with thypical toasted Arizona interior.

The optional 400 HP solid lifter engine is rebuilt and on a stand, trans is rebuilt, cross ram induction is on a bench.

Also has factory A/C, power windows and swivel seats.

The shop owner/mechanic said it belongs to a customer who collects old chryslers. He said he works on it as a side job but hasen't touched it in over three years now.

I got the owners name and contact and will be following up on it.

Very good find, Will!

Around 1987 or so, I found a similar '61 300G parked on the street in downtown Nashville TN, in the warehouse district.
It was a little tattered, missing its hubcaps, etc., and looked as though someone just parked it there and left.
I put a note under the wiper but never heard anything....

It's funny how a find like this will stick in your memory!
Yet I couldn't tell you my wife's birthday to save my life!

Keep us updated with any progress on this one, Will.

Nice! Great body!

Not likely a factory optioned 400 HP car, though. The rams in the photo are for the standard 375 HP engine. The 400 HP option isn't really a thing. Yeah, they made some, technically. We only know of one to exist (barely) and it was built for the Daytona Beach trials.

All 300Gs have swivel seats and power windows.

Be interesting to know if the VIN is known by the 300 Clubs.

Let us know if/how it gets priced. I have a somewhat comparable one I'm trying to sell.

Yep, what Andy said. This appears to be a 375 HP very standard old 300.

I think you guys are correct. The info i've found stated the 400HP engine was part of a package that included a 3 spd manual trans.

The odd thing is that the fellow I talked to built the engine ...... said it had a solid lifter cam when it came apart.

Aren't the F & G models the same with minimal exceptions? If that is a true statement or question, isn't the F the more desirable car and why?

IMHO, the F is more desirable because of several appearance issues - the tail lights, front end appearance and seat upholstery! Those are personal reasons are why I like the F more than the G but I suspect I'm not alone on those. It's also the first year of the design, which is usually more desirable than succeeding years of similar designs. Then again, I could be out to lunch on the whole thing!

Wish you luck in acquiring the car, Will, it looks like a perfect resto project.

Probably a case of the owner biting off more than he could chew once the repair bills were tallied up.

==================================

Each has a lot going for it. The F has a more conventional side-by-side headlight arrangement (very well done)
while the G got those awesomely fin-era canted headlights. The F got the high flying boomerang tail lights that are
one of the fin era's greatest designs from the side profile, but look squatty and blobular from the rear, whereas the
61 has a more conventional just-above-bumper light that is good looking, but nothing too exciting.

To me, the best looking cars of each year were the New Yorkers. The 300 stripe is just plain boring and has become
synonymous with snooty trailer queen guys who look down on all the other Forward Look cars.

I didn't realize that there was that much difference. I drove an F in March of '60 about 120 miles from SC to Shelby, NC. I'm gonna have to take a look. But both were awesum.

SavoyPlaza - Keep us updated with any progress on this one, Will. Pete

I made a contact with the owner. He seems like a pleasant person, loves old Mopars. He told me he has 7-8 projects and not much progress on any of them. He realizes he needs to thin the collection. I hit on the 300 a little but didn't press the issue. We are going to meet up sometime soon and I might be able to help him out on a couple of issues that need attention on two of his Imperials.

Will let you know if theres any progress.
