Location: Nashville, TN | I spent several hours looking for the Sanden SD7H15 4663 compressor. To my disappointment I READ IN THEIR LIST OF COMPRESSORS THEY NO LONGER MAKE A COMPRESSOR FOR r12,. r134 ONLY. I also found several ebay ads for Sanden TYPE compressors. Very misleading ads. They are selling the made in China knockoff but using Sanden's name in their ad. Beware when the word "TYPE" is used. It would be nice if someone could find something that contradicts what I found. Looks like I'm back to R134 |

Location: Arizona | They don't make R12 compressors in the sense that they no longer make them with the r12 fittings built in. You can run R12 in any of the ones that work with 134a. I suspect Sanden is just covering their ass since R12 is sort of gone from the market and about the only time anyone uses it is people like us with old cars and old systems. |

Location: Nashville, TN | That's good to know. The new lubricant (PAG46) is supposed to work with both R12 and R134. In all my reading on this they say that R12 is superior to R134 in several ways. It doesn't seep out as fast, gets colder, and there was something about moisture mixing with R12, but won't in R134. Government philosophy "If it ain't broke, fix it til it is". |

None of the PAG oils are compatible with R12. The only difference between R12 compresors and R134 compressors is the oil; simply pour the PAG oil out of the new R134 compressor and replace it with POE (ester) oil.
I seem to have seen some of the Chinese Sanden knockoffs that claim to be usable on both systems, probably come charged with ester oil. |

Location: Arizona | The incompatibility is not between the PAG and the R12, it is between the old mineral oil and the PAG. If the system is flushed and all the old mineral oil is removed then there is no problem using PAG oils with R12.
Info on this is available here: http://www.pag-idemitsu-usa.com/pag_features.htm |
