What is the story with the engine? I think that it should be a variety of 361 or 383 B/RB engine (distributor at the front).

The air cleaner implies 361 4bbl (395 lb-ft of torque) like this one (distributor at the front)

yes, correct on the air cleaner.

Had it on my shelf from a previse car and wanted it on this 325 motor.

Wagon had a 361 motor but bad cylinder so switched it out to this good running motor.
