| I've developed a heavy power steering leak in my '55 Chrysler.
I'm brining the car to a new mechanic that has a good reputation with classics. I want to do my homework in advance of what might be the issue/culprit.
Is there something that's common to leak that he can likely fix without a rebuild or having to special order parts? The leak is heavy enough that it drained the PS bowl twice. |

If your pump has the top-mounted reservoir, there are "O" rings between the reservoir and the pump body. Most likely a common size that is readily available. |

I ended up swapping to a different pump, and so far, so good. Note: This is the 55-6 pump attached to the rear of the generator. Ron |

If your PS pump is a Thompson, the seal PN is 1408 732 and there are several modern equivalents, e.g. the National Seal 6835S.
If I am wrong and your PS pump is an Eaton, I can repeat the same process and find the PS pump seal for it. Just let me know.
This is the Rock Auto search results for the 1408 732 seal:
