Location: Wyoming | I’ve got what I believe is a 1958 Plymouth or DeSoto 350 4bbl engine – complete from intake to oil pan, that I acquired 20+ years ago. I’m now in the process of building a 383 for a late 60’s Plymouth and need some misc. parts and all fasteners (parts that should be common to all B-blocks) to make that 383 complete and I’m wrestling with the question of whether or not to rob those parts from the 1958 4bbl 350, or purchase another cheap engine to rob the parts from. My question is this: is the 1958 Plymouth/DeSoto 350 of enough value to anyone that I should keep it complete and assembled, or purchase another B block to get parts from (push rods, valley pan rails, rear main seal retainer, water neck, all external fasteners to assemble the 383, etc). |

Location: So. Cal | The 350 is a popular motor for the 58 Christine crowd, but the parts that you mention could be obtained by them from any other motor as you say. The only issue is if you are selling it whole, untouched, you could likely get more money out of it. So if you want to sell it, then list it for sale and use the funds to buy the other parts you want. |

| What do you need?
I have several early 60s to late 60s 383 parts motors available

Location: Eastern Iowa | Would a 413 from a '64 new yorker be of any use to you?
Or a 361?
Both are located in eastern Iowa. |

Location: Wyoming | The 361 would work great, but I’m 100s of miles from there. In SE WY. |

Location: northern germany | The valley pan rail is just a simple piece of a steel with 3 holes in it. Could be fabbed in a few minutes out of aluminum. The pushrods you will likely not need, since they only work up to 1967ish on big blocks with OE lifters. If you buy a cam and lifter set, they are all for the later style push rods. I think only Comp Cams offer the early style lifters but you have to tell them, otherwise they send the later style lifters with their cams. |

Location: NY & VT | A complete and rebuildable 350 is super rare, 1 year only on just a couple of models, I'd leave it together as the parts you need are ready available and not expensive. JMHO. |

Location: Wyoming | I appreciate the information and opinions. It’ll stay together for now, and I’ll likely advertise here when I get around to selling it. As an aside, I’ve had an engine block shipped to me recently from MI (to WY) and was surprised how inexpensive it was (relatively speaking) through Fastenal. Was under $400 for freight for the long block - I’ve paid that to ship a 150 lb transmission a similar distance. |
