Posted this on the facebook group, but also wanted to post here to help others.

This is very similar to how the 1956 Dodge Mirror Disassembles, but the components are slightly different. The picture shows the exploded parts after disassembly. In order for me to remove the pivot threaded shaft from the mirror housing and the mirror tail, I used two heavy screwdrivers to pry the two apart. The shaft is held in place in the tail housing by a rubber bushing. I have not tried to see if I can free the rubber bushing yet. To remove the glass from the mirror housing, there is a lockring. To remove I used a fine pick. The glass is stubborn to remove and took some tries by smacking and picking (likely due to age, dirt and corrosion). Everything else is very straightforward.

Nice job, and thanks for posting the info. It isn't easy to take these things apart.

"To remove the glass from the mirror housing, there is a lockring . . . "

I have disassembled many 1959 mirrors, for rechrome and / or change the glass to wide view one. Never encountered a fixing spring.

Had to break the glass to take out and replace. This mirror must be another make.  - SERGE -

@sermey
There are at least 3 styles of mirrors I have seen. No visors, visor, and visor with ribbing underneath. Mine has the ribbing underneath. I found one that had sold on ebay (pics attached).

Sorry Sam, must correct myself: "I have disassembled many Original 1959 Mopar mirrors". The one you show is another make.

You are right in that they are not stamped DPCD, but they are stamped autolite 1801 and they match the mounting points perfectly (at least on my rusty vehicle with no re-drilling present) if their screw locations identical to posts stamped DPCD. Unless the screws do mount differently my car was built with these. Granted, I am working on something that is 60 years removed and information is sketchy sometimes. I know that 58 and 59 were recession years and costs had to be cut surely. My vehicle has factory dual rear antennas and matches the IBM card, but the fender was still drilled and patched for a single antenna and patched at the factory. Chrysler already had a relationship with autolite for their electrical components/gauges and maybe used them to make some other items.

In searching for mirrors one these cars, a decent amount of them are labeled as autolite 1801 bases online with a couple styles of glass housings.
