Based on my observations, the firewall was never black unless the upper hood and trunk, etc, was black. Otherwise the firewall was the same colour as the top of the hood and the top of the trunk. For example, my car's firewall is metallic royal blue, i.e. the saddle colour.
The underside of the trunk was the same colour as the top of the trunk for Detroit cars and grey for the LA cars (mixed up using left over paints).
The hood latch support seems to have been silver for the Detroit cars and black for the LA cars.
I think that the underside of the hood was the same as the fender and lower upper hood colour.
I think that the inner front fender liners were fender colour for the Detroit cars but black for the LA cars.
At this point finding an unmolested car to confirm some of these "think"s is difficult.

My coronet 57 looked like this. Trunk floor underside was like rest of the floor before it was cut away. The red is the factory before- finish-primer. It is a LA car.
