Location: The Centennial State | Question: my car is just chrome surrounding the tail light bezels. This one looks like it has black paint in there. Which way did they come from the factory?

Location: Lubbock, TX | I had an all original 58 adventurer years ago, and it had no sign of black paint. But since then I also have seen quite a few cars with that area blacked out.
I kinda like it, make it look like the taillight towers are truely floating in space. I suspect that, if they were black from the factory, the paint applied to the chrome doesn't stick and overtime it all flakes off. That's really common on bicycles from this same era. A lot had chrome tanks and fenders that were then painted. Unfortunately the paint technology of the time didn't provide strong adhesion properties to a plated metal, so they flaked almost immediately.

Location: Branson, MO | To answer your question, the '58's and 57's did not have any black surround paint around the tail lights from the factory. They were exactly like the picture above shows.

Location: Lubbock, TX | No Sale at $42k, I watched the livestream and it appears they were waiting for a rich buyer to jump in, but it was all shills up to that point. Based on the No Sale at RM, I'd guess reserve is low 50's.
