Location: D-70199 Heslach | Did any of you know that Virgil Exner styled a bugatti after he was kicked out by chrysler.
I was last week in the Schlumpf Museum and this car showed a clear relationship to our favorites before I read the sign.
If anybody is interested: Musée National de l'Automobile - Collection Schlumpf (Mulhouse, Alsace, France)

The story of that car, built on Bugatti Type 101 chassis No. 101506, that had never previously been bodied, is told on pages 142-145 of Peter Grist's book "Virgil Exner - Visioneer".
The engine is a supercharged Bugatti straight 8. The body, etc. was made by Ghia, in payment for $27,000 that Ghia owed Exner for unpaid design consultancy fees.

Please explain, where does it show that? To me this is just another proof, that Exner was NOT responsible for the jet age design of 55-61 Mopars. As John Samson wrote, it was the Chrysler brass that wanted the Americana look with long overhangs front and rear and other things. Sorry, I say, our cars look great despite of Exner.
This got to be one of the ugliest man made things I ever saw.

They probably mean it looks a lot like other Ghia Chrysler concepts. I can certainly see that including some XNR influences as well as his later Stutz Blackhawk designs. I agree that it's not that attractive. Probably some choices were made because of the chassis and drivetrain that was used.

Ha ha ha... They aren't much better looking in person. Especially when they've been pimped out with fur trim and gold emblems. If Exner was anything, he was persistent, trying to peddle his later weird ideas to anyone who would bite. |

Location: northern germany | It still needs those fake curved horseless carriage canopy ornaments on the C pillar Ford used in the 60s, yes, fur trim and gold is a must, with lots of baroque ornamentation.....

Believe it or not.
The post I've done just wanted to show that after Chrysler Exner undertook other activities. |

Well, I believe that *YOU* see a "relationship".
I just ask you to explain WHERE you *think* is the "relationship" between that **** and FL cars. Elaborate please. There is none fortunately, other than the instruments that seem to resemble 57/58 Chrysler. Yet, I'm curios what made you post that. |

Location: DFW, TX | Exner had this thing about "revival" cars, new cars with old styling. His designs were turned into model cars in the mid '60s. Google "Renwal Revival" and see more details.
I have to agree that Exner received a lot of accolades for the styling work done in his name. His own work and ideas were a bit clumsier than the FL Mopar designs.
