As stated by d500neil on red Coronet 2 door sedan in this thread:
The "M5-1" number confirms the 2-barrel carb version of the 326 V/8 engine.

Gunnar's car is a Custom Royal. So that theory doesn't hold water. Neil knew 57 Dodges. But 59 Dodges ? Not so much. Ron |

| I have understood that 3 before 1 means that it is a 4 barrel carb on the 383 |

I'm not claiming anything – I just got a link.
I know that code M2 = 3 = 373 is a D-500 engine; and I guess that code M2 = 4 = 374 is a Super D500 engine
I don't quite understand Neal's statement either…

Hello Gunnar
I am also guessing that the code M1 = 8 is the locked luggage compartment (code 328).
It was standard on 9-passenger wagons and as an option on 6-passenger wagons. Can you confirm or deny this?
Thanks |

I know: this is 59 Plymouth; not 1959 Dodge, but still... |

377 = Dodge Sierra Spectator 4door Station Wagon, 9P
379 = Dodge Custom Sierra Spectator 4door Station Wagon, 9P
These models have locked luggage compartment as standard; so their M1 space are empty;
376 = Dodge Sierra 4door Station Wagon, 6P
378 = Dodge Custom Sierra 4door Station Wagon, 6P
These models have not locked luggage compartment as standard; so their M1 space are empty;
If these have it; so their M1 space stamped by 8…
That’s the difference, I guess…

M5 - 1 code could be:
361 - Swivel Seat
391 - Auto Headlamp Dimmer
501 – Undercoating
Do you have a broadcast sheet of this car for check these?
There has been a discussion about this:

| I forgot, the 391 and 501 (at least under the front fenders) is also in/on the car |

If you have been reading – RDP said in the thread that I posted above:
«M5 1 - maybe swivel seat or undercoating, my car has no dimmer»
So the M1 code could be either swivel seat or undercoating
The search circle is narrowing…

I seem to have solved the «?1 code» mystery in the link I posted yesterday – here it is:
http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=14212&...
The red Coronet 2 Door Sedan with the code M1 = 5 on the tag is shown there, but it does not have swivel seats.
Therefore the code M1 = 5 = 501 is UNDERCOATING, I guess.
Anyway, the broadcast sheet (IBM card) would be confirmed this guessing…

Robert: If you know it already, look at next 1959 Dodge M-codes:
M1 = 8 = 328 = Locked Luggage Compartment for 6-passenger Wagons (it has optional lock cylinder on the picture)
M6 = 5 = 305 = Power Tail Gate Window for 6-passenger Wagons too (it should have crank tail gate handle as standard equipment)
What do you think?

And finally could it be:
M1 = 7 = 327 = Radio Rear Shelf Speaker
