What is a good material to install between the inside of the interior door panel and the door? I don't recall removing any paper, plastic or anything when my Imperial came apart, but I know that it would be best to put some kind of barrier material in there to make sure my panels don't get water spots should water get inside the door or rear quarter. What are people here using?

I use age resistant plastic foil, the type used in houses as a moist barr ier.
The lower part should be inserted through the Long slot in the door so the moist will be Lead into the door and not to the interior.

Agree. I used 6 mil polyethlyene vapour barrier sheeting (as used in house construction) when I re-did my four 4dr sedan doors. I also tucked the tail into the slot, as Sven suggested.

Hot glue works really well to attach it too. I would recommend painting the insides of your panels with a good sealer if/when the barrier eventually fails for some reason.

Agree. This is what I did when I made my first panel from Masonite: The white is an oil-based primer. The blue is "ZeroRust" metal spray paint on the new clips that I added.
