| Hi everyone, new to the forum. I recently bought a 55 NY'er Deluxe and she can't stop worth a darn. So much so the transport company crashed it into my garage upon arrival (true story). So asside for quarter panel work needed and a rear bumper, I know I have zero brakes.
Do I replace the whole booster or switch to something like hydroboost, which uses power steering for vacuum instead of the hemi. Thoughts or recommendations are welcome! Thanks! |

Location: Connecticut | Or you could rebuild the existing system, like I did. My brakes were non-op when I got the car (55 Desoto). I rebuilt the power unit and one-year-only master cylinder with parts from Harmon Industries. Brakes work fine now. Harmon also offers a rebuild service, if you're not up for the challenge. Ron |

Location: Muskego, WI | You have a heavy car, I think you would be happier and safer with disc brakes up front. |

Location: Connecticut | 1955NYer - 2020-06-23 12:07 AM Thanks Ron, I heard the way to go is to get away from the original system, which is supposed ot very good. Is that true? How has yours worked out? The original Bendix system works well. There is a learning curve + special tools needed to do the job correctly. But I was up for the challenge, unlike most folks who are looking for a quick, easy way out. I wanted to keep it original. Having said that, disc brakes have the edge when it comes to brake fade/overheating. Multiple panic stops or braking down a steep mountain aren't kind to a drum system. Dual master cylinder is probably safer than a single pot. Ron |

| If they are so moronic, that an outfit doesn't know what size it is,
I personally would steer clear of them.
For you not knowing, that is okay and understandable, but for anyone
That is "in the business" and doesn't know is unforgivable !!!!
Without a catalog , right out of my head , that is the old # 45 brake
Shoe --- which is definitely 12" x 2"... Only. On a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker.
If you want to keep it original, I have Everything for you.....
